Rodger Saffold carted off field

Published Sep. 9, 2012 1:00 a.m. ET

Rams left tackle Rodger Saffold was carted off the Edward Jones Dome turf in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions after undergoing what appeared to be a neck injury.

Saffold remained down for several minutes, and some Rams players held hands and formed a prayer circle on their sideline. Saffold was eventually lifted onto the cart but did not appear to be moving much.

The 6-foot-5, 314-pound Saffold is in his third season with the Rams. He started nine games last season after starting 16 as a rookie.

Safford, who underwent season-ending surgery to repair a pectoral injury in 2011, has impressed in training camp and was looked upon to protect Bradford’s blindside.
