Month after Super Bowl, Wilson’s still owning Manning

The Seattle Seahawks are still reaping the benefits of their Super Bowl success.

And Peyton Manning is yet again a bridesmaid.

Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson finished with the NFL’s top-selling jersey of the 2013 season, triumphing over Manning, the record-setting Denver Broncos QB who placed second, and Colin Kaepernick, who Wilson beat in the NFC championship game.

In a report in The Seattle Times, on Dec. 31, WIlson ranked third, with Manning and Kaepernick 1-2. But a huge post-Super Bowl bump lifted the Seahawks QB.

Seattle beat Denver in Super Bowl XLVIII, 43-8.

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady finished fourth, followed by Wilson’s teammates Marshawn Lynch and Richard Sherman at five and six.

Despite their current state of fame, Seattle did not have a dominating lead in merchandise sales throughout the regular season. The NFL’s senior vice president of consumer products Leo Kane told The Seattle Times that this year’s spike in sales of Seahawks merchandise following the Super Bowl was “one of the best we’ve ever had, if not the best ever.”

This year marks the first time that the Seahawks have topped the merchandise charts, The Seattle Times reported. The sales were calculated from April 1, 2013 to Feb. 28, 2014.

Wilson’s popularity has even crossed over into baseball, with the Texas Rangers selling shirts that include his name and Seahawks number.

And apparently he is big in volleyball, too.
