Alexander tears ACL, out for year
The San Diego Chargers announced Tuesday that wide receiver Danario Alexander will miss the entire season with a torn ACL.
This marks the fourth time Alexander has suffered a torn ACL, with the first three coming in college at the University of Missouri. He managed to stay healthy last season, and in the second half of the season emerged as one of the few legitimate threats in the Chargers’ passing game.
In the final nine games last year, Alexander caught 37 passes for 658 yards and seven touchdowns, all team highs. He was expected to step into a full-time starting role for the Chargers this season.
Alexander is the third Chargers player to tear his ACL in the past three months, joining linebackers Melvin Ingram and Jonas Mouton. The receivers remaining on San Diego’s roster are Malcom Floyd, Vincent Brown, Eddie Royal, Robert Meachem and rookie Keenan Allen.
