NFL reviews safety for Super Bowl
Stemming from Monday’s terrorist attack at the Boston Marathon, the NFL has issued a statement regarding the safety measures being put in place for Super Bowl XLVIII next February in East Rutherford, NJ.
“We have been operating at a very high level of security since 9/11 for all of our games and events,” NFL spokesman Greg Aiello wrote in an email. “We have been working closely the last two years with federal, state and municipal agencies on a coordinated and comprehensive security plan for the New York/New Jersey Super Bowl.
“We do not comment on specifics of these programs but continue to review and evolve our plans to ensure the safety of everyone attending the Super Bowl.”
The NFL has not had a terrorist attack at one of its games. Increased stadium security followed the Sept. 11, 2011 destruction of the World Trade Center.
Three people were killed and more than 100 injured Monday in the bombing at the Boston Marathon.
Aiello told FOXSports.com that the NFL will “review and enhance our already comprehensive security plans with the (New York Police Department), Radio City (Music Hall) and our private security partners” for the NFL Draft announcements April 25-27 in New York City. The three-day event is open for fans.
“We will advise the public more specifically next week prior to the draft,” Aiello wrote.
