Bucs bringing in veteran kickers
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are exploring options at kicker again.
Two sources told FOX Sports that the Bucs are bringing in veterans for tryouts on Thursday. One of them is former Dallas Cowboys kicker David Buehler.
The decision stems from concerns about the two kickers currently on the active roster. Lawrence Tynes, who spent the previous six seasons with the New York Giants, hasn’t played in the preseason because of an ongoing toe problem.
The other kicker is Derek Dimke, who has never appeared in an NFL regular-season game. Dimke, a first-year player who was cut in training camp last season by Detroit, has made all five of his field-goal attempts during Tampa Bay’s first two preseason games.
The Buccaneers signed Tynes in July after incumbent kicker Connor Barth suffered a season-ending Achilles tendon injury while playing in a charity basketball game.
Buehler was with the Cowboys from 2009 to 2011. Buehler made 75 percent of his field-goal attempts (24 of 32) during that time before his release. He was waived last month at the start of training camp by the Giants.
Another veteran who could be on Tampa Bay’s radar is Rian Lindell. He was released Monday after 10 seasons in Buffalo. Lindell, 36, is the most accurate kicker in Bills history with an 81.3 field-goal percentage. Dan Carpenter is another potential option, as he was released last week by Miami.
Tampa Bay's next preseason game is Saturday against the Dolphins.
