Aching Owens likely done for season
Terrell Owens is out for the season after tearing the meniscus in his left knee in Cincinnati's 19-17 win over Cleveland, USA Today reported Sunday, but says he intends to play again next season.
Owens, 37, has been inconsistent in his first season in Cincinnati, but became the oldest receiver in NFL history to have 200 yards receiving in a 23-20 loss in Cleveland in Week 4, catching 10 passes for 222 yards -- the second-highest total of his career.
However, the game also marked the start of a 10-game losing streak that tied a team record. Sunday against Cleveland, the Bengals reverted to the run-based attack that won the AFC North last season and changed significantly after Owens was signed.
''We kind of became a one-man show for a minute there,'' running back Cedric Benson said.
Owens, limited in practice because of the knee, started and played in the Bengals' opening series but began limping after running a long pass route on Cincinnati's sixth play. He wound up leaving the game in the first quarter and the Bengals announced he would not return.
Owens has played in 44 consecutive games. The last game he missed was the final game of the 2007 season with the Dallas Cowboys.
