Bob Kraft: I'm rooting for Tim Tebow

Robert Kraft has learned not to meddle when it comes to roster decisions. But that doesn’t mean the New England Patriots owner won’t be lobbying head coach Bill Belichick if there’s a player or two he’d like to see make the cut, such as a certain Tim Tebow.

Tebow’s time as a Patriot may be close to ending as New England trims its roster down to its final 53 players before Saturday's deadline. While some think Tebow has a future with the team if he spends this year developing behind the scenes, others think Belichick wouldn’t waste a roster spot on keeping Tebow around.

Kraft hopes Belichick does, according to ESPN.

“I’m rooting for [Tebow] big time,” Kraft told a group of reporters on Tuesday night. “I’m in his corner, but I have the privilege of letting Bill make those decisions. He has a pretty good record doing it.”

The Patriots have only kept two quarterbacks on the roster in recent years, and Tebow likely wouldn’t be a suitable backup for Tom Brady after struggling with the basics in the preseason.

“I think you want to make sure we have the best 53 to help us win games during the year,” Kraft said.

Kraft famously feuded about personnel decisions with the Patriots coach who came before Belichick, Bill Parcells, and his involvement with player moves was reportedly much of what led Parcells to leave the franchise. Kraft hasn’t made similar missteps so far with Belichick in charge, Tebow or not.
