Houshmandzadeh signs with Raiders

The Oakland Raiders announced Tuesday they had signed free-agent wide receiver TJ Houshmandzadeh.

Houshmandzadeh played eight seasons in Cincinnati, six with recently acquired Raiders quarterback Carson Palmer.

The 34-year-old veteran auditioned for the Raiders earlier Tuesday, with coach Hue Jackson eager to see if the two former teammates could assist Oakland's passing game, which ranks 23rd in the NFL.

Houshmandzadeh had just 30 catches for 398 yards and three touchdowns with the Baltimore Ravens last season -- a fry cry from his numbers in 2007 with the Bengals, when he had 112 receptions for 1,143 yards and 12 touchdowns in his only Pro Bowl year in 10 seasons.

The former seventh-round pick out of Oregon State has 616 career receptions for 7,091 yards and 43 touchdowns.

The Raiders, coming off the bye week at 4-3, host division rivals Denver Sunday.
