Meriweather appealing suspension
Washington Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather is appealng his two-game suspension for a pair of helmet-first hits, reports FOX Sports Insider Alex Marvez. The appeal will be heard Wednesday by a neutral arbitrator.
The league announced Monday that Meriweather will sit out this week against the Denver Broncos and the following game against the San Diego Chargers.
Meriweather can appeal the suspension. If he does, a hearing will be held before the Broncos game.
Meriweather was flagged for personal fouls on defenseless receivers in the third and fourth quarters of Sunday's 45-41 win over the Chicago Bears.
In issuing the suspension, the league cited Meriweather's status as a repeat offender. He was fined $42,000 for a helmet-first hit on Green Bay Packers running back Eddie Lacy in Week 2.
Meriweather may not participate in any football activities with the team during the suspension.
