Report: Davis, Williams suspended

Washington Redskins tight end Fred Davis and left tackle Trent Williams will receive four-game suspensions from the NFL after testing positive for marijuana, The Washington Post reported Monday.

The suspensions are expected to be announced this week after a deal was struck on the punishments between the NFL and the Players Association. Since the deal was bargained, the players will not be able to appeal and will sit out the final four games of the regular season.

Each has failed at least three drug tests since coming into the NFL, including one each since the season began. Davis is in his fourth season, while Williams is in his second after being selected fourth overall in the 2010 draft.

According to the report, Davis and Williams were part of a group of 11 players who failed drug tests right after the new collective bargaining agreement was signed in late July. The league and the union have negotiated since August on what to do about those failed tests, since the transgressions occurred during the lockout.

The NFLPA has argued the players should be granted a grace period, and nine of the 11 players are not expected to be penalized.

Under the NFL labor deal, a third failed test brings a year-long suspension but the NFL will reportedly agree not to count the July failed tests against Davis and Williams.

There has been no public comment on the matter from the Redskins, the NFL or the players' union.

Williams would lose $1.85 million if the suspension is confirmed, while Davis would forfeit more than $140,000. Davis, who is set to be a restricted free agent after the season, is having a breakout year, with 59 catches for 796 yards.
