Watt's intense commitment to be the best affects social life
J.J. Watt’s work ethic was cited often when the Texans were considering selecting defensive end Jadeveon Clowney with the No. 1 overall pick. The hope was that Clowney, who has been accused of taking a play or two off, might be able to apply some of Watt’s off-the-field traits to maximize his potential.
Watt, a 6-foot-5, 289-pound defensive end, already has been named to two Pro Bowls, two All-Pro teams and earned a Defensive Player of the Year award. Those accolades, though, didn’t happen by accident. A former collegiate tight end who has turned into one of the fiercest pass rushers in the game, Watt is known for his unrivaled attention to detail and passion for the game.
Watt understands he has an eight- to 10-year window, and last August he noted his passion for the game is the reason why he doesn’t have a girlfriend.
Former linebacker Ben Leber posted a transcript Tuesday of a Watt interview, discussing why the 25-year-old is too busy to “hang out and be a regular guy.”
