Terrance Knighton - #96 - Defensive Tackle - 6'3" - 336lbs
Thu. May 24, 2012 |
STATS
News: Knighton is taking "baby steps" toward a full recovery from eye surgery.
Impact: Knighton donned a helmet at practice Thursday for the first time in organized team activities and went through some individual drills. Although his progress did nothing to alter his planned return - the team wants to limit his work until training camp in July - it provided Knighton an emotional boost. Knighton injured his left eye while trying to break up a bar fight in April. Mike Thomas - #80 - Wide Receiver - 5'8" - 198lbs

RotoWire
News: Thomas reportedly will not be a training camp cut despite being knocked down the depth chart this offseason, according to the Florida Times-Union.
Impact: Thomas is due $6 million from the Jaguars over the next two years whether he is on the roster or not, so expect him to be in Jaguar teal at least this year. Still, the arrival of Justin Blackmon and Laurent Robinson has made Thomas' fantasy value nearly obsolete. Rashean Mathis - #27 - Cornerback - 6'1" - 193lbs

News: Mathis (knee) is reportedly well ahead of schedule in his recovery from a torn ACL and could be on the practice field as early as next month, according to the Florida Times-Union.
Impact: Mathis will battle Aaron Ross for a starting cornerback spot when he returns, and his health will go a long way in who earns that position. Aaron Kampman - #74 - Defensive End - 6'4" - 260lbs
Thu. May 24, 2012 |
RotoWire
News: Kampman (knee) isn't expected back until during training camp, according to the Florida Times-Union.
Impact: Kampman has now had three knee surgeries in the last three years, and will probably always be considered a health question mark for the rest of his career. Given that he's due nearly $5 million in salary, we wouldn't be shocked if he was a training camp casualty. Justin Blackmon - #14 - Wide Receiver - 6'1" - 207lbs

RotoWire
News: Blackmon has impressed players and coaches with his performance at OTAs so far, according to the Florida Times-Union.
Impact: "He's ahead of where you think most rookies would be," said coach Mike Mularkey. Blackmon has the potential to become this year's Offensive Rookie of the Year, but his development depends almost entirely on the ability of quarterback Blaine Gabbert to get him the ball. Rashad Jennings - #23 - Running back - 6'1" - 228lbs
Wed. May 16, 2012 |
RotoWire
News: Jennings (knee) has impressed Jags' coach Mike Mularkey with starter Maurice Jones-Drew not attending OTAs due to a contract dispute, according to the Florida Times-Union.
Impact: Jennings spent all of last year on the IR, but could be thrust into a huge spot this year if MJD ends up holding out for any amount of time. Taylor Price - #15 - Wide Receiver - 6'0" - 205lbs
Wed. May 16, 2012 |
RotoWire
News: Price, who had been dealing with a stress fracture in his foot, underwent surgery and had a pin put in to address the issue, the Florida Times-Union reports.
Impact: Price will miss the rest of the offseason, which doesn't help his cause of making a splash in his first full season with the Jags, especially given the team's offseason additions (Justin Blackmon and Laurent Robinson) at wideout. Rashean Mathis - #27 - Cornerback - 6'1" - 193lbs
Tue. May 15, 2012 |
RotoWire
News: Jacksonville head coach Mike Mularkey says Mathis (knee) could return to the practice field in June, the team's official site reports.
Impact: The veteran is expected to vie for a starting spot at cornerback with Aaron Ross. Whoever doesn't earn the job will likely be Jacksonville's nickelback. Terrance Knighton - #96 - Defensive Tackle - 6'3" - 336lbs
Tue. May 15, 2012 |
STATS
News: Speaking publicly for the first time since a bar fight last month, Knighton opened with an apology.
Impact: Knighton apologized to the city of Jacksonville and the organization for "embarrassing them with the actions that happened that night." Then he answered any and every question about that night, his rehabilitation and his chances of making a full recovery. If his eye responds as well, the Jaguars should have their run-stuffing defender back for training camp. Justin Blackmon - #14 - Wide Receiver - 6'1" - 207lbs
Tue. May 15, 2012 |
RotoWire
News: Blackmon (foot) practiced Tuesday, Tania Ganguli of Florida Times-Union reports.
Impact: Blackmon sat out the final day of the Jags' rookie camp earlier this month with a sore foot, but he's good to go now. "I went back home, just rested my feet got back with some better cleats," Blackmon said Tuesday. While Blackmon's fantasy value as a rookie hinges largely on the development of QB Blaine Gabbert, there is an opportunity for him to carve out a significant role in the Jags' offense (opposite Laurent Robinson) out of the gate. Maurice Jones-Drew - #32 - Running back - 5'7" - 208lbs
Tue. May 15, 2012 |
STATS
News: Jones-Drew is a no-show again. The Jacksonville Jaguars running back is skipping organized team activities, which began Tuesday.
Impact: Since the workouts are voluntary and Jones-Drew has stayed away before, it's not a huge concern. But the Jaguars would like to have their best offensive player in attendance to get acquainted with a new coaching staff and new playbook. Terrance Knighton - #96 - Defensive Tackle - 6'3" - 336lbs

RotoWire
News: Knighton (eye) expects to be ready for training camp, the Jaguars' official Twitter page reports.
Impact: Knighton was involved in fight which led to the injury, but he seems confident that he'll recover in time for the start of training camp. The Jaguars issued a statement that read, "Knighton apologized to the city of Jacksonville, teammates and coaches for any embarrassment he caused the organization." Blaine Gabbert - #11 - Quarterback - 6'5" - 233lbs

News: Gabbert is the clear-cut No. 1 quarterback on the Jags' depth chart heading into this season, coach Mike Mularkey told NFL.com.
Impact: Gabbert heads into Year 2 with only one direction to go: up. Despite the presence of Chad Henne as his backup, it's clear that the team has dedicated much of its offseason to giving Gabbert some tools to win, bringing in wideouts Laurent Robinson and rookie Justin Blackmon. The team hopes that, armed with another year of experience, a new quarterbacks coach in Bob Bratkowski and some new weapons, his 2012 looks nothing like his 2011. Maurice Jones-Drew - #32 - Running back - 5'7" - 208lbs
Mon. May 14, 2012 |
RotoWire
News: Jones-Drew is not expected at OTAs this week, as he is seeking a new contract, according to Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times-Union.
Impact: Those worried that MJD may not come into this season in good shape due to these contract issues, remember that he led the league in rushing last year with no OTAs and a shortened training camp. We expect the Jags to lock him up at some point, and for him to have another excellent year. Josh Scobee - #10 - Kicker - 6'1" - 210lbs
Mon. May 14, 2012 |
RotoWire
News: Scobee is not expected at OTAs this week, as his contract talks with the Jaguars have stalled, according to Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times-Union.
Impact: Scobee is looking for Sebastian Janikowski money, somewhere in the neighborhood of $4 million per year. As it could be argued that he is the Jags' most important offensive weapon short of Maurice Jones-Drew, expect the team to lock him up at some point. Brandon Coutu - #2 - Kicker - 5'11" - 194lbs
Mon. May 14, 2012 |
RotoWire
News: The Jaguars have signed Coutu, Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times-Union reports.
Impact: Fellow kicker Josh Scobee's contract talks with the Jags have gone nowhere and he'll skip OTAs. Coutu gives the team both short-term and long-term insurance/leverage at the kicking position in the event Scobee's contract situation lingers. Justin Blackmon - #14 - Wide Receiver - 6'1" - 207lbs
Sun. May 6, 2012 |
STATS
News: Blackmon sat out the final day of rookie camp because of a sore right foot. The Jaguars drafted the former Oklahoma State star with the fifth pick in last week's NFL draft, hoping he can upgrade the league's worst offense.
Impact: Coach Mike Mularkey says Blackmon had "general soreness in the foot" and the team is "being precautionary with this camp." Mularkey expects him to be ready to practice again when organized team activities begin May 15. |
