News: With Hakeem Nicks (foot) out for much of training camp, Barden has a chance to carve out a significant role.
Impact: Even if Nicks is able to return for Week 1, Barden will battle Rueben Randle for the No. 3 receiver job, Rueben Randle - #82 - Wide Receiver - 6'3" - 210lbs

News: If Hakeem Nicks (foot) were to miss any time, Randle could be in line to benefit.
Impact: We'll see how Randle performs in camp, but the Giants drafted him to replace Mario Manningham, and if he performs as advertised, he could be next in line after Nicks. Ramses Barden could also be in the mix. Hakeem Nicks - #88 - Wide Receiver - 6'1" - 208lbs

News: Nicks fractured the fifth metatarsal bone in his right foot during the Giants' OTA's on Thursday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
Impact: Nicks is slated to undergo surgery Friday to have a screw inserted into the broken bone, with the initial estimate being that he will miss 12 weeks. That timetable suggests that he should be ready by Week 1, but it could end up being a race against time on that front if there are any setbacks or delays in his recovery. Nicks' injury creates immediate added opportunities for second-round pick Rueben Randle, who now probably merits sleeper consideration in fantasy drafts. News: Molden injured his hamstring in practice on Wednesday, the Star-Ledger reports.
Impact: Molden was carted off the field, but the nature of the injury is not clear. Fellow cornerback Brian Witherspoon was carted off during the same practice, and appears to have suffered a significant knee injury, possibly a torn ACL for the second straight year. Molden's injury is probably less serious, and he should be fine by the time the regular season begins unless he suffered a severe hamstring tear. Brian Witherspoon - #29 - Cornerback - 5'10" - 180lbs

News: The Giants have waived Jones (leg) after he failed his physical with the team, Ralph Vacchiano of the Daily News reports.
Impact: Jones, who was selected with the 76th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, suffered extensive damage to his leg in a car wreck in June and he's been working his way back toward an improbable comeback with the Giants since then. It remains to be seen if he'll ever play pro football, but if he gets to the point where that could happen, it sounds like the Giants would be amenable to bringing him back. |
