News: Manning, who is slated to have arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle, expects to be able to run in about six weeks, the Daily News reports. "I think it's smart to get this procedure done now so the ankle isn't an ongoing issue," Manning noted.
Impact: Given that timetable, Manning could be available for for the Giants' on-field OTA's, which begin on May 29. Meanwhile, Manning is in line to do off-field work once the team's offseason program opens on April 21. Assuming no setbacks, Manning should be at, or near full strength in advance of training camp.

News: Manning will have surgery on his left ankle Thursday, Jonathan Jones of the Charlotte Observer reports.
Impact: Manning suffered a high ankle sprain in the Giants' Week 17 victory over the Redskins, and was seen in a walking boot and crutches days after the game. Since then, there hasn't been much information released regarding the issue, but it sounds as if he'll have surgery to clear up any lingering effects. Getting this fixed during the offseason should help keep his 153-game starting streak intact, as he'll have a few months to heal before the start of 2014. He'll likely be limited in OTAs, however.

News: The New York Giants agreed to a one-year contract on Friday with Davis, whose previous team's last game was a Super Bowl victory at the Giants' stadium.
Impact: The 14th free agent signed by the Giants this offseason who played elsewhere last year, Davis spent his first five NFL seasons with Chicago. He joined the Seahawks one week into the 2013 season and played in every game the rest of the way - except Seattle's Super Bowl victory over Denver, when he was inactive. Mostly used as a blocker, Davis has 50 receptions for 561 yards and 12 touchdowns in the regular season. He was a fifth-round draft pick by the Bears in 2008.

News: Davis signed with the Giants on Friday, the team's official site reports.
Impact: Davis had just three receptions for 32 yards and a touchdown in Seattle last season, and will join a Giants roster that already has Adrien Robinson, Larry Donnell and Daniel Fells at the tight end position. Davis is primarily known for his solid blocking ability, but will look to carve out a role in the offense for himself during camp. He has yet to gather more than 19 receptions in a season over his five-year career.

News: Giants coach Tom Coughlin said he's counting on Wilson (neck) but won't be in any rush to have the young running back contribute, Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News reports. "I'm counting on [Wilson], but I am not going to put him in any circumstance until it's an absolute that he's 100 percent," Coughlin said. "I'm not going to mess with that one."
Impact: The Giants still have high hopes for the former first-round draft pick, but Wilson will first need to prove his health, and then need to prove that he can hold onto the ball. New York signed Rashad Jennings in March, and Coughlin's Giants have favored a committee approach in the backfield since Tiki Barber retired in 2006. Wilson is expected to be ready for training camp in July, but he's not yet back to full health.

News: The New York Giants have signed former Denver Broncos defensive end Robert Ayers. The Giants lost defensive captain Justin Tuck to Oakland in free agency, leaving Jason Pierre-Paul, Mathias Kiwanuka and second-year pro Damontre Moore. Pierre-Paul was limited by injuries last season.
Impact: Ayers' addition Wednesday makes him the 13th veteran the team has signed since free agency started. Ayers had a career-high 5.5 sacks last season for the AFC champion Broncos. A former first-round draft choice and a New Jersey native, he is the fourth participant from February's Super Bowl, and the third from the Broncos, to join the Giants. The others are cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and return specialist Trindon Holliday. Cornerback Walter Thurmond left Seattle to join the Giants.
