News: Ben Roethlisberger "seems to be fine" after suffering a probable concussion on Sunday against the Chiefs, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Impact: All signs seem to indicate he will be able to start in Week 12. His back-up will be Dennis Dixon after Charlie Batch hurt his wrist on Sunday.
Mon. Nov 23, 2009 | STATS
News: Ward had 10 catches fro 128 yards, including an 8-yard touchdown, in Pittsburgh's 27-24 overtime loss to Kansas City on Sunday.
Impact: Ward bounced back after being held to 12 catches for 71 yards in his previous three games.
Mon. Nov 23, 2009 | STATS
News: Roethlisberger had thrown for 398 yards and three touchdowns when he apparently took a knee to the helmet while being sacked by Derrick Johnson in Pittsburgh's 27-24 overtime loss to Kansas City on Sunday.
Impact: "He took a blow, needless to say, it was a concussion-oriented thing so I doubt he was going to come back into the football game," Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said. "I don't have a lot of information in terms of where he is or his level of availability. We will have more information as we proceed."
Mon. Nov 23, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Roethlisberger (concussion) is expected to start in Week 12 against Baltimore provided he passes his neurological testing, KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh reports.
Impact: The Steelers will have a better idea whether or not Roethlisberger can play on Sunday when coach Mike Tomlin speaks at his weekly press conference Tuesday afternoon. With Charlie Batch (wrist) out, Pittsburgh currently has only one quarterback, second-year man Dennis Dixon, on its roster. If Roethlisberger is not cleared to play against the Ravens, then the team might consider a veteran QB like Jeff Garcia.
Mon. Nov 23, 2009 | Fanball
News: Dennis Dixon could be pressed into action in Week 12, as Ben Roethlisberger deals with the aftermath of a concussion, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Impact: Regular back-up Charlie Batch is out for six weeks after injuring his wrist in relief of Big Ben on Sunday. In his career, Dixon has attempted all of one pass. It was a three yard completion.
Mon. Nov 23, 2009 | Fanball
News: Despite being in the game for just one series on Sunday, Steelers back-up quarterback Charlie Batch injured his wrist, and will be sidelined for six weeks after undergoing surgery, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN
Impact: What is he, a baseball player? Batch was only in the game after Ben Roethlisberger suffered a minor concussion. If both are unable to go this week, Oregon product Dennis Dixon will get the call at quarterback in Week 12.
Mon. Nov 23, 2009 | RotoWire
News: The Steelers are unlikely to update the status of Roethlisberger (possible concussion) until coach Mike Tomlin's press conference Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Impact: On the plus side, Roethlisberger, who said after Sunday's game that he did not know whether he had sustained a concussion, was at the Steelers training facility Monday and seemed fine. More as we know it, but with Charlie Batch out with a wrist injury, Dennis Dixon now becomes Big Ben's primary backup, at least for now.
Mon. Nov 23, 2009 | Fanball
News: The right knee injury that forced Chris Kemoeatu from the Steelers' loss to the Chiefs on Sunday has been revealed as a sprained MCL, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Impact: He isn't expected to miss a whole lot of time, but it's unlikely that he will ready for Week 12. Not the greatest news for a recently concussed Ben Roethlisberger.
Mon. Nov 23, 2009 | Fanball
News: Ben Roethlisberger was "lucid" in the locker room after his overtime concussion in the Steelers' loss to the Chiefs on Sunday, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Impact: He suffered the concussion after getting kneed in the head by Chiefs linebacker Derrick Johnson. Unlike most concussion sufferers, he looks like he will not have to miss any game time.
Mon. Nov 23, 2009 | RotoWire
News: With Charlie Batch out, Dixon is in line to be the Steelers' primary backup to QB Ben Roethlisberger.
Impact: Since Roethlisberger appeared to have his bell rung late in Sunday's game, it's possible that the Steelers may need to turn to Dixon as early as Sunday's game against the Ravens.
Mon. Nov 23, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Batch will undergo wrist surgery and will be out approximately six weeks, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
Impact: With Batch out and Ben Roethlisberger's Week 12 status still uncertain, it's possible that the Steelers may have to turn to Dennis Dixon in Sunday's game against the Ravens.
Mon. Nov 23, 2009 | Fanball
News: Ben Roethlisberger suffered no memory loss or nausea after his overtime concussion on Sunday, according to Pro Football Talk.
Impact: Both very good signs that indicate his concussion may not be of the serious variety. Consider his early status for Week 12 to be questionable.
Sun. Nov 22, 2009 | Fanball
News: ESPN's Adam Schefter has confirmed that the head injury that forced Ben Roethlisberger out of the game in overtime on Sunday was a concussion.
Impact: It is the fourth of his still young career, a scary thought. He should, for now, be considered doubtful for Week 12. Charlie Batch is his back-up.
Sun. Nov 22, 2009 | Fanball
News: Rashard Mendenhall had 21 carries for 80 yards and chipped in four receptions for 36 yards and a score in the Week 11 loss at Kansas City.
Impact: The four receptions indicate that the second-year veteran is becoming a complete back before our very eyes. As the weather turns colder, look for the Steelers to lean more and more on Mendenhall.
Sun. Nov 22, 2009 | Fanball
News: Heath Miller had seven receptions for 85 yards and one touchdown in the Week 11 loss at Kansas City.
Impact: In the previous three games, Miller had only compiled 13 receptions for 82 yards, so this was a very solid performance. Overall, he has been a top-10 tight end on the season, but Miller could be without his starting quarterback next week at Baltimore.
Sun. Nov 22, 2009 | Fanball
News: Hines Ward reeled in 10 receptions for 128 yards and a touchdown in the Week 11 loss at Kansas City
Impact: This was the fourth 100-yard effort of 2009 for Ward, who has scored five touchdowns in the last six weeks. At 33 years of age, Ward has provided his owners with outstanding fantasy value this season, as the 12-year veteran is a No. 1 wideout in PPR leagues and a No. 2 in standard formats.
Sun. Nov 22, 2009 | Fanball
News: Ben Roethlisberger completed 32-of-42 passes for 398 yards with three touchdowns against two interceptions in the Week 11 loss at Kansas City.
Impact: Roethlisberger has thrown two or more touchdown passes in five of his last seven weeks. But he left the game in the overtime period with a possible concussion. Big Ben owners will want to monitor the news closely going forward, as his Week 12 status is uncertain.
Nov 22, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Woodley had a pair of sacks in Sunday's loss to Kansas City.
Impact: Woodley has shown up in the sack column for the second straight week, marking the first time this year he has recorded a sack in consecutive games. He now has five on the season.
Nov 22, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Hampton recorded a sack against Kansas City in Week 11.
Impact: Hampton is not known for his prowess at taking down quarterbacks. Sunday's sack was his second of the season, which ties his career high.
Nov 22, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Timmons notched three tackles, a sack and a forced fumble against the Chiefs in Week 11.
Impact: Timmons continues to show that when healthy, he is capable of being a factor for the Steel Curtain. Despite the ankle injuries he has had this year, he has recorded 41 tackles, four sacks and three forced fumbles in eight games (seven starts) this season.
Nov 22, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Harrison had three tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery in Sunday's loss to the Chiefs.
Impact: Harrison's take-down of Matt Cassel was his 10th sack of the season, giving him double-digit sacks for the second straight season. Only Denver's Elvis Dumervil has more sacks among linebackers (12).
Nov 22, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Carter led the Steelers with eight total tackles (seven solo) against the Chiefs.
Impact: Carter did an OK job statistically in place of the injured Troy Polamalu, but the defense looks completely different when he is not on the field. The Steelers had a 17-7 lead at the half, but the Chiefs attacked the secondary in the second half. Matt Cassel passed for over 200 yards with two touchdowns in the second half en route to KC's 27-24 overtime win.
Nov 22, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Wallace had two catches for 47 yards against the Chiefs Sunday.
Impact: The Steelers' deep threat was targeted just three times Sunday, as most of the looks went toward Hines Ward and Santonio Holmes. He now has 500 yards receiving for the season and leads the team with an average of 17.9 yards per catch.
Nov 22, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Holmes had seven receptions for 86 yards against the Chiefs in Week 11.
Impact: Holmes continues to get his looks (10 targets Sunday) and yards, but he also continues to frustrate anyone who has him in touchdown-heavy leagues. He failed to find the endzone for the ninth straight game Sunday.
Sun. Nov 22, 2009 | Fanball
News: Chris Kemoeatu exited the game at Kansas City with a right knee injury
Impact: No word on the severity of the injury, but Kemoeatu is finished for the day.
Nov 22, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Miller caught seven passes for 95 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's loss to Kansas City.
Impact: His seven receptions Sunday puts him at 54 for the season, which is good for second on the team and sets a career high. He is definitely reaping the benefits of Pittsburgh's offense flowing through the passing game as opposed to the ground attack.
Sun. Nov 22, 2009 | Fanball
News: Ben Roethlisberger exited the game at Kansas City in the overtime period with a head injury.
Impact: Roethlisberger took a knee to the head from linebacker Derrick Johnson and the medical staff is checking him out on the sideline. Charlie Batch has assumed the controls of the offense.
Nov 22, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Ward hauled in 10 catches for 128 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's loss to Kansas City.
Impact: Ward gets back into the passing attack in a huge way as he had just 12 receptions and 71 yards receiving over the last three games combined. He is certainly not showing his age as the 33-year old leads the team in catches (63), yards (798) and is tied for the lead in touchdowns (five).
Nov 22, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Parker carried six times for 24 yards and caught one pass for 11 yards in Sunday's game against the Chiefs.
Impact: Offensive Coordinator Bruce Arians said Parker still had a role in the offense and made sure to get Parker more involved than he had been in the prior three games. Those who have Rashard Mendenhall on their roster still have no need to worry though as Mendenhall continues to prove he is simply the better back right now (he had 116 total yards and a touchdown against KC).
Nov 22, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Batch completed one out of two passes for 17 yards in Sunday's game against the Chiefs.
Impact: Batch came on in relief of Ben Roethlisberger in the overtime session as Big Ben was taken out due to a "concussion-oriented thing". We'll have to wait for more news from the team to see if Roethlisberger's status for Week 12 is in jeopardy, which would put Batch in at the helm against the Ravens.
Nov 22, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Coach Mike Tomlin said Roethlisberger's injury is "concussion-oriented," the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Impact: Roethlisberger said he was not certain if he suffered a concussion or not, but he felt OK after the game. The Steelers will hopefully have more news within the next 24 to 48 hours.
Nov 22, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Mendenhall racked up 116 total yards and a touchdown in Sunday's loss to the Chiefs.
Impact: Mendenhall carried 21 times for 80 yards but seemed a bit more dangerous out of the backfield Sunday. He had just four receptions but they went for 36 yards and a touchdown (the first receiving touchdown of his career). He also saved a touchdown for the Steelers when Ben Roethlisberger was picked off in the endzone in the fourth quarter. KC's Andy Studebaker raced toward a pick-six, but was chased down by Mendenhall just a few yards shy of the Steelers' endzone. He may have been spelled a bit more by Willie Parker on Sunday, but he is still the focal point of the rushing attack.
Nov 22, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Roethlisberger was knocked out of Sunday's game against the Chiefs during the overtime period.
Impact: More on the status of Roethlisberger, who appeared to have his bell rung, as we know it. Charlie Batch took over for Big Ben, who had thrown for 398 yards with three TDs and two picks before his exit.
Sun. Nov 22, 2009 | Fanball
News: Week 11 inactives: QB Dennis Dixon (3rd), S Troy Polamalu, FB Carey Davis, G Kraig Urbik, T Tony Hill, DE Sunny Harris, WR Shaun McDonald and DE Travis Kirschke.
Impact: WR Mike Wallace (illness) is active and will play in multiple receiver sets. On defense, SS Tyrone Carter starts in place of Polamalu, who is inactive due to a knee injury.
Sun. Nov 22, 2009 | Fanball
News: The National Football Post reports that Travis Kirschke will not play in Sunday's contest against the Chiefs due to a calf injury.
Impact: Kirschke will now miss his third straight game with the injury. This has been a tough position for the Steelers this season, who lost Aaron Smith and now Kirschke, his replacement. Nick Eason will get the start Sunday.
Sat. Nov 21, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Carter will start against the Chiefs in Week 11.
Impact: Troy Polamalu will not play Sunday, so Carter gets another start. He has 12 tackles and two interceptions (one returned for a touchdown) in the five games he has started this season.
Fri. Nov 20, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Davis (hamstring) practiced fully Friday, but is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Chiefs, the Steelers' official site reports.
Impact: Once healthy, the fullback may see the occasional carry, but not enough to warrant fantasy consideration.
Fri. Nov 20, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Wallace (illness) was not listed on Friday's injury report.
Impact: It looks like all systems go for Wallace against a Kansas City defense that has allowed an average of over 230 yards per game through the air and 14 touchdown passes this year.
Fri. Nov 20, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Polamalu (knee) will not play against the Chiefs in Week 11, the Steelers' web site confirms.
Impact: Polamalu did not practice Friday and is listed as out on the team's status report for Sunday's game. We'll check back next week to see if he is able to practice at least on a limited basis as the Steelers prep for the Sunday night clash with the Ravens in Week 12.
Fri. Nov 20, 2009 | STATS
News: Harrison was fined $5,000 for unnecessary roughness when he struck Bengals tackle Andrew Whitworth late.
Impact: The Steelers lost the game 18-12 to the first-place Bengals.
Fri. Nov 20, 2009 | Fanball
News: Travis Kirschke is expected to miss his third straight game on Sunday as he continues to fight a calf injury, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Impact: Evander Hood will likely be active in his absence.
Fri. Nov 20, 2009 | Fanball
News: The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting that Troy Polamalu (PCL sprain) will not play this weekend.
Impact: He was always considered a long-shot, and the Steelers obviously want to play it safe with their franchise safety. With the team taking on the 2-7 Chiefs, they can probably survive another game without him.
Fri. Nov 20, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Offensive coordinator Bruce Arians said Parker still has a role in the ground attack, reports the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
Impact: Arians hinted Parker may have been involved more against the Bengals if Rashard Mendenhall hadn't received such a low number of carries (13). As well, Mewelde Moore came in on a series designated for Parker when the team decided to go no-huddle. Regardless, the starting job belongs to Mendenhall. Parker may see a few more touches if the rotation goes as planned or if the Steelers are up big in a game, but it is not enough to warrant considering him for fantasy purposes at this point.
Fri. Nov 20, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Offensive coordinator Bruce Arians said Sweed has "earned the right to get back out on the field," the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Impact: "He's had three great weeks of practice. I would have no qualms putting him in the ballgame," Arians stated. He also added Sweed has to "bide his time," so don't expect him to get a bunch of targets suddenly. Mike Wallace leads the league in receiving yards by a rookie, making it highly unlikely the team will work Sweed extensively back into the offense at the expense of Wallace. That being said, it's good to note that Sweed has not just mailed it in and is working on improving his game.
Fri. Nov 20, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Polamalu (knee) is not expected to play against the Chiefs in Week 11, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Impact: The team has not made an official statement on his status, but considering the circumstances, this should come as no surprise. Tyrone Carter will start in his place.
Thu. Nov 19, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Wallace, who sat out Wednesday's practice due to an illness, was not listed on Thursday's practice participation/injury report.
Impact: It looks like Wallace will be fine for Sunday's game against the Chiefs, though we'll have to see if he ends up listed on Friday's official injury report at all.
Thu. Nov 19, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Polamalu (knee) was wearing a heavy brace at the Steelers' practice Wednesday, The Pittsburgh Channel reports.
Impact: Polamalu, who did not practice Wednesday, was also seen limping as he exited the session. It appears all but certain that he will not play against the Chiefs in Week 11.
Wed. Nov 18, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Polamalu (knee) did not practice Wednesday, the Steelers' web site reports.
Impact: Not a big surprise here. The team is not expected to attempt to push him into practice so as to give the knee as much recovery time as possible.
Wed. Nov 18, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Wallace missed practice Wednesday due to illness, the Steelers' web site reports.
Impact: It's unknown at this point if his status for Sunday's game against the Chiefs is in jeopardy. We'll see if he is able to return to practice in the next couple of days.
Wed. Nov 18, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Coach Mike Tomlin confirmed Wallace might get some chances to return kicks going forward, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Impact: Wallace had the first kick return of his pro career (which went for 26 yards) in Sunday's loss to the Bengals, but Tomlin said he "may get some more opportunities in the future." Wallace leads the league in receiving yards by a rookie with 453, but now may also get a few shots at having an impact in the return game. He had success as a returner in college (second team All-SEC in his senior year), so it's not unfamiliar territory.
Tue. Nov 17, 2009 | Fanball
News: The Steelers promoted linebacker Donovan Woods from their practice squad, according to ESPN.
Impact: The Steelers are struggling on special teams coverage, and Woods will be given a chance to help - but holds no value for IDP leagues.
Tue. Nov 17, 2009 | Fanball
News: Updating an earlier report, Troy Polamalu has been diagnosed with a PCL sprain of his left knee, according to the Associated Press.
Impact: Polamalu suffered a MCL sprain on the same knee at the start of the season. The elite strong safety will be questionable for Sunday's battle at Kansas City.
Tue. Nov 17, 2009 | STATS
News: Reed has been absolved by the Steelers for his poor tackling effort Sunday in an 18-12 loss to the Bengals in which he failed to bring down Bernard Scott on a 96-yard kickoff return for a TD.
Impact: Reed only halfheartedly tried to bring down Scott, but coach Mike Tomlin won't blame a kicker for the latest touchdown. Kickers rarely have the speed, mobility or quickness to do more than get in the way of a returner downfield. "Man, I am not going to go down to evaluating Jeff Reed as a tackler," Tomlin said. "When it comes down to that, we have failed as a coverage unit. I don't lose any sleep on the quality of Jeff Reed's tackles."
Tue. Nov 17, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Carter may start against the Chiefs in Week 11 in place of Troy Polamalu.
Impact: The Steelers' web site reports that Coach Mike Tomlin said Polamalu is "questionable at best" for Sunday's game, so look for Carter to be called upon to start as long as Polamalu will be sidelined as was the case when Polamalu was injured earlier in the season.
Tue. Nov 17, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Coach Mike Tomlin said Polamalu (knee) is "questionable at best" for Sunday's game against the Chiefs, the Steelers' web site reports.
Impact: Polamalu sprained his PCL against the Bengals Sunday (the previous injury was a sprained MCL), but overall Tomlin feels the results of the MRI are "really encouraging, more encouraging, really, than originally anticipated." Although Tomlin said they will handle Polamalu day-by-day, it appears he will miss at least this week's game. We'll see if there is any change in status towards the end of the week, but it looks like Tyrone Carter will start against KC.
Tue. Nov 17, 2009 | Fanball
News: The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review is reporting that Steelers' safety Troy Polamalu was walking around the team's facility without a limp on Monday. The team is yet to release an update on Polamalu's condition after he left Sunday's game in the first quarter with a knee injury.
Impact: It sounds like this injury might not be as serious as we were led to believe, but we will know more when the team releases more information. Polamalu has not been ruled out for this week's game, but look for him to return for the game against the Ravens on November 29 if he is unable to go against the Chiefs.
Tue. Nov 17, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Polamalu (knee) is expected to miss at least one game, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Impact: The Steelers have not released any official word yet, but coach Mike Tomlin will have his press conference Tuesday. We should hopefully hear the results of Polamalu's MRI and a clearer sense of how long he might be sidelined.
Mon. Nov 16, 2009 | STATS
News: Holmes had seven catches for 88 yards Sunday in the Steelers' 18-12 loss to the Bengals.
Impact: Holmes also short-armed a potential touchdown pass from Ben Roethlisberger, but overall had a solid day. That should continue next week against a shaky Kansas City defense.
Mon. Nov 16, 2009 | STATS
News: Mendenhall had 13 carries for 36 yards Sunday in the Steelers' 18-12 loss to the Bengals.
Impact: Mendenhall had a few decent gains but the Steelers never really committed to running the ball. Look for him to get more touches next week in Kansas City.
Mon. Nov 16, 2009 | STATS
News: Roethlisberger was off all day Sunday, going 20 for 40 for 174 yards in the Bengals' 18-12 win over the Steelers in Pittsburgh.
Impact: Roethlisberger's 51.5 passer rating was easily his worst of the year, and he struggled to hit open receivers even when given time. He should be able to fare better Sunday against Kansas City's 27th-ranked defense.
Mon. Nov 16, 2009 | Fanball
News: Troy Polamalu's latest knee injury is not believed to be season ending, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Impact: He is expected, at minimum, to miss a few games, however. His status should receive an official update sometime in the next day or two.
Mon. Nov 16, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Polamalu (knee) was sent for an MRI Sunday and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the results may not be as severe as when he injured the knee in the first game of the season.
Impact: The Steelers have not had any official announcement of the results, but team sources say the sprain does not appear to be as serious in comparison to when the injury was first suffered. We'll await word from the team, but for now, it looks like Polamalu may not be in a worst-case scenario.
Sun. Nov 15, 2009 | Fanball
News: Jeff Reed scored all the points in the Steelers' Week 10 loss to the Bengals. He hit field goals of 28, 33, 34 and 35 yards.
Impact: The four short field goals tell the story of the game. The Steelers could not punch it into the end zone when they got close, and it's tough to win when you settle for threes.
Sun. Nov 15, 2009 | Fanball
News: The Bengals held Rashard Mendenhall to 13 carries for 36 yards in the Steelers' Week 10 loss.
Impact: Mendenhall continues to be the lead dog in this backfield, but the Bengals defense once again showed they are for real as they shut down all aspects of the Steelers attack. You shouldn't let this poor showing sour you on Mendenhall too much.
Nov 15, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Timmons had eight total tackles (four solo) against the Bengals Sunday.
Impact: Timmons did not appear limited from the ankle injury of the last two weeks, so feel free to use him as you normally would against the Chiefs in Week 11.
Nov 15, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Harrison notched his ninth sack of the season in the loss to Cincinnati Sunday.
Impact: Harrison got flagged for unnecessary roughness late in the fourth quarter which helped Cincy on their final drive. They wound up kicking a field goal for an 18-12 lead and that forced to Steelers to go for a touchdown in the closing minutes as opposed to playing for a tie.
Nov 15, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Woodley had four tackles and a sack against the Bengals Sunday.
Impact: Woodley has been an inconsistent and somewhat disappointing IDP option thus far. With three sacks this season, he is definitely not on pace with his 11.5 sack campaign last season. His tackles numbers are down as well. He has just 22 totals tackles through nine games after racking up 60 in 15 games in 2008.
Nov 15, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Reed connected on all four field goal attempts against the Bengals in Week 10.
Impact: Reed was the Pittsburgh offense Sunday, scoring all 12 points in the loss to Cincinnati.
Nov 15, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Wallace had just one reception for 16 yards against the Bengals Sunday.
Impact: Wallace was targeted five times Sunday but the passing attack was just not overly effective Sunday. Take note that he also returned a kick against the Bengals, so perhaps the Steelers will try to use his speed to help out another aspect of the game in the coming weeks.
Nov 15, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Ward had four catches for 24 yards in Sunday's loss to the Bengals.
Impact: Ward hasn't been as productive lately as he was at the beginning of the season. Including Week 10, he has just 71 yards over the last three games. One positive sign is that he was targeted 10 times against Cincinnati, so he is not a forgotten man in the passing attack. Hopefully he can get back on track against the Chiefs next week. KC is among the bottom three teams in the league in pass defense (over 250 yards allowed per game).
Nov 15, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Miller caught four passes for 26 yards against the Bengals.
Impact: The Pittsburgh offense just seemed out of sync Sunday as the Bengals kept pressuring the line of scrimmage and pocket to get Ben Roethlisberger off his game. The plan worked as the Steelers were held without a touchdown for the first time this season.
Nov 15, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Holmes led the Steelers with 88 yards and seven receptions against the Bengals.
Impact: Holmes was the best offensive weapon the Steelers had on the field Sunday as he had about half the total passing yards for the team (174). He still has a measly one touchdown for the season, but at least is back to being the first option in the passing game with 13 receptions and 181 yards over the last two games.
Nov 15, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Parker saw action in just one series against the Bengals in Week 10. This is the second straight game in which he was limited to one series on the field.
Impact: Parker had one carry for seven yards and had one pass directed his way (incomplete). Despite Parker's call for more carries this past week, it was Mewelde Moore who was on the field more often on top of being involved in the offense more. Whether Parker is still hindered by injury issues or the team just doesn't have a whole lot of confidence in his abilities right now, it appears Moore is the No. 2 back for the time being. Regardless, neither back is effective for fantasy purposes at this point.
Nov 15, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Moore had 35 total yards in Sunday's game against the Bengals.
Impact: Moore recorded 21 yards on two carries and 14 yards on two receptions. Although the Steelers haven't actually stated it, he seems to have supplanted Willie Parker as the No. 2 back for the time being. However, he still does not see enough action to warrant fantasy consideration at this point.
Sun. Nov 15, 2009 | Fanball
News: Safety Troy Polamalu has been ruled out for the rest of the Week 10 game against the Bengals due to a left knee injury.
Impact: This is the same knee that Polamalu hurt in the season opener, and he subsequently missed four games due to a sprained MCL. He didn't appear to severely tweak the knee this time around, but the Steelers didn't wait too long before ruling him out.
Sun. Nov 15, 2009 | Fanball
News: Cornerback Keenan Lewis was shaken up during the second quarter of the Week 10 game against the Bengals. He remained down for a few minutes before getting up and being helped off the field.
Impact: We're not sure what the rookie tweaked, but it looked like he may have been favoring his back or hip.
Nov 15, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Mendenhall had just 41 total yards in Sunday's loss to Cincinatti.
Impact: Mendenhall had 13 carries for 36 yards and one reception for five. The Steelers looked flat in most aspects of the game Sunday, but the Bengals really did some job in keeping the offense from getting in rhythm on the field.
Nov 15, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Polamalu's knee injury against the Bengals was to the left knee, the same one injured in the first game of the season, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette confirms.
Impact: The exact nature and severity of the injury is not known at this point. Hopefully, the Steelers will release some information in the next 24 to 48 hours.
Nov 15, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Roethlisberger threw for just 174 yards with zero touchdowns and one interception against the Bengals on Sunday.
Impact: Cincinnati did a tremendous job keeping pressure on Roethlisberger all game and the Pittsburgh offense out of rhythm. He was sacked four times and had three passes batted down at the line of scrimmage. It was his worst performance this season, but he should hopefully have a nice bounce back game in Week 11 against the Chiefs.
Sun. Nov 15, 2009 | Fanball
News: Safety Troy Polamalu injured his left knee during the first quarter of the Week 10 game against the Bengals. He is doubtful to return, Rachel Nichols of ESPN tweets.
Impact: This is the same knee that Polamalu hurt in the season opener, and at that time, he missed four games due to a sprained MCL. We don't know details at this point.
Sun. Nov 15, 2009 | STATS
News: Polamalu did not practice all week because of a left knee injury and will not play Sunday in Kansas City. He may miss the Nov. 29 game at Baltimore as well.
Impact: Polamalu sat out the Steelers' second through fifth games with a ligament tear, only to injure the same knee during an 18-12 loss to Cincinnati on Sunday.
Sun. Nov 15, 2009 | Fanball
News: Week 10 inactives: QB Dennis Dixon (3rd), DE Travis Kirschke, CB Keiwan Ratliff, FB Carey Davis, OG Kraig Urbik, OT Tony Hills, DE Sunny Harris, WR Shaun McDonald.
Impact: James Farrior (non-injury) and Hines Ward (non-injury) are active, as expected. Ryan Clark will regain his starting safety after sitting out against the Broncos.
Nov 15, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Polamalu has left the game against Cincinatti after tweaking his knee.
Impact: His return to the game is doubtful at this point. More news as it becomes available.
Nov 15, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Ward is active for Sunday's game against the Bengals.
Impact: You may have noticed his name on the "injury" report this week as he missed some practice time due to non-injury related reasons. He is definitely playing in this huge divisional matchup.
Fri. Nov 13, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Davis (hamstring) is listed as out for Sunday's game against the Bengals, the Steelers' official site reports.
Impact: We'll revisit Davis' status leading up to Week 11's game against the Chiefs.
Fri. Nov 13, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Timmons (ankle) practiced again Friday and pronounced himself ready to play against Cincinnati Sunday, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Impact: It looks safe to use Timmons (29 tackles, three sacks and two forced fumbles in six games) once again if he is one of your IDPs.
Fri. Nov 13, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Parker said he has recovered from his toe injury, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Impact: "I'm ready to get on that field now. It's just a matter of time. I'm waiting patiently," Parker was quoted. He knows Rashard Mendenhall is entrenched as the starter, but wants to at least try to get on the field every third series as Mendenhall did when Parker was starting. He did not have a single carry against the Broncos Monday as Mendenhall shredded the top-ranked Denver defense for 155 yards.
Fri. Nov 13, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Fox is not expected to start against the Bengals in Week 10.
Impact: Barring any setbacks, Lawrence Timmons is expected to start since he has been able to practice on the injured ankle the last two days.
Fri. Nov 13, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Timmons (ankle) was a full participant in practice Thursday, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Impact: That's two full practices in a row for Timmons, so look for him to start against the Bengals Sunday.
Thu. Nov 12, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Timmons (ankle) is expected to play against the Bengals in Week 10, according to the Beaver County Times.
Impact: Timmons, who sat out of Monday's game against the Broncos, returned to practice Wednesday. We'll have to see how the next couple of days go to see if the team expects him to be at full speed or limited Sunday.
Wed. Nov 11, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Carter was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Impact: Carter had two interceptions, one being a pick-6, against the Broncos Monday night. He started in place of Ryan Clark, but will return to the backup role going forward as Clark was held out of Week 9 due to health concerns from playing in Denver.
Wed. Nov 11, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Coach Mike Tomlin wasn't yet sure about the availability this week of Timmons (ankle), the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports
Impact: Timmons wasn't on Wednesday's practice participation/injury report, which is a good sign. More on his status for Sunday's game against the Bengals in the coming days.
Wed. Nov 11, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Davis (hamstring) is not likely to practice this week, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Impact: Coach Mike Tomlin said: "Usually when you pop a hamstring...very rarely are you capable of participating the next week." If Davis is unable to even practice this week, he will most likely miss the game against the Bengals as well. We'll check back towards the end of the week to see if there is any progress.
Tue. Nov 10, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Sweed was active against the Broncos Monday night.
Impact: Sweed did not record any receptions in the game and was targeted just once. He has gone from being the preseason favorite to be the Steelers No. 3 wideout to a frequent name on the inactive list (he was inactive the two prior games).
Tue. Nov 10, 2009 | STATS
News: Ward had seven receptions for 44 yards and two touchdowns in Monday's 28-10 win over Denver.
Impact: The Steelers host the Bengals on Sunday, and Ward had four catches for 82 yards in Pittsburgh's 23-20 loss to Cincinnati in Week 3.
Tue. Nov 10, 2009 | STATS
News: Mendenhall rushed for 155 yards on 22 carries in Monday's 28-10 win over Denver.
Impact: Mendenhall has run for 528 yards and four touchdowns in five games since taking over the starting running back duties. He could have trouble finding running room Sunday against the Bengals, though. Cincinnati is second in the league against the run, allowing an average of 83.9 yards per game.
Tue. Nov 10, 2009 | STATS
News: Roethlisberger completed 21 of 29 passes for 233 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in Monday's 28-10 win over Denver.
Impact: The Steelers host the Bengals on Sunday, and Roethlisberger completed 22 of 31 passes for a TD and a pick in Pittsburgh's 23-20 loss to Cincinnati in Week 3.
Mon. Nov 9, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Harrison recorded seven tackles (six solo) against the Broncos on Monday.
Impact: The Pittsburgh linebackers didn't record any sacks in Week 9, and they have a tough matchup in Week 10 as well. The Bengals have allowed just 12 sacks through eight games this season.
Mon. Nov 9, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Polamalu had three tackles and an interception against the Broncos on Monday.
Impact: Think the Steelers missed Polamalu when he was injured? Pittsburgh allowed 22 points per game in the four games he missed against just over 12 points per game in the four games he has played. He looked the best he has Monday since returning to game action, so it seems the bye week did a lot of good for his knee.
Mon. Nov 9, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Fox recorded seven tackles (six solo) in the Monday night win over the Broncos.
Impact: Fox seems to put up decent numbers whenever he gets inserted into the starting lineup. We won't know what his role will be in Week 10 at this point, however, as it will depend on the health of Lawrence Timmons (ankle).
Mon. Nov 9, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Keisel recorded a pair of sacks against the Broncos in Week 9.
Impact: Keisel isn't a strong option in fantasy leagues, as he doesn't usually get a high number of tackles or sacks.
Mon. Nov 9, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Carter returned an interception for a touchdown against the Broncos on Monday night.
Impact: Carter, starting in place of Ryan Clark, also added a second interception in the closing seconds of the game. Health issues continue to surround the Pittsburgh defense, but whoever gets subbed in seems to be able to step up and contribute in some way.
Mon. Nov 9, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Miller had three receptions for 18 yards in Monday's win at Denver.
Impact: It was a quiet night for Miller as Santonio Holmes (six catches, 93 yards), Mike Wallace (four catches, 69 yards) and Hines Ward (seven catches, 44 yards) did the damage to the Broncos. Despite the lack of production, he stands third in the league among tight ends in receptions (43) and 11th in yards (371).
Mon. Nov 9, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Parker didn't record any carries or catches in Monday's game against the Broncos.
Impact: Parker didn't even get on the field until there were about five minutes left in the third quarter. The way Rashard Mendenhall ran against the Broncos (22 carries, 155 yards), it was no surprise Parker was kept on the sidelines.
Mon. Nov 9, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Wallace caught four passes for 69 yards and a touchdown in Pittsburgh's 28-10 victory over the Broncos on Monday night.
Impact: This is becoming a typical game for the explosive rookie, who seems to catch three or four passes every week, averages just over 65 yards receiving per game, and is now adding touchdowns to the mix. To say that he has adequately replaced Nate Washington is an understatement.
Mon. Nov 9, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Holmes caught six passes for 93 yards in Pittsburgh's 28-10 victory over the Broncos on Monday night.
Impact: Holmes led the Steelers in yards receiving, but it was teammate Hines Ward who got the red zone looks and the two touchdowns in close, while rookie Mike Wallace scored from further out (25 yards).
Mon. Nov 9, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Roethlisberger completed 21 of 29 passes for 233 yards and three touchdowns while tossing one interception and losing a fumble in Pittsburgh's 28-10 victory over the Broncos on Monday night.
Impact: The Steelers struggled offensively in the first half, as the Broncos did a good job pressuring Roethlisberger and held Pittsburgh to a total of 54 yards. However, when they turned to their no-huddle offense in the second half, things started clicking. Big Ben had some bad moments, like getting picked off in the endzone and getting the ball stripped for a Denver touchdown, but he responded well and orchestrated some big drives in leading the Steelers to the 28-10 win.
Mon. Nov 9, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Mendenhall carried 22 times for 155 yards in Pittsburgh's 28-10 victory over the Broncos on Monday night.
Impact: It could have been a monster game for Mendenhall had the Steelers called his number instead of going to Hines Ward twice from the three-yard line, but as it stands, the second-year back averaged 7.0 yards per tote and was especially effective salting the game away late. Another key stat for the second-year back: no fumbles lost as he had the past two games. Mewelde Moore did spell him a bit in the fourth quarter, but did not replace him when the team got in the red zone.
Mon. Nov 9, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Ward had seven catches for 44 yards and two touchdowns in Pittsburgh's 28-10 victory over the Broncos on Monday night.
Impact: It is fitting that a hard-nosed player like Ward would score on a pair of 3-yard touchdown passes, considering that the game was often ugly and defined by early defensive touchdowns.
Mon. Nov 9, 2009 | STATS
News: The Pittsburgh Steelers are playing it safe with Clark and holding him out of the team's game at Denver. Clark nearly died following a game in Denver two years ago because of a rare blood disorder that is aggravated by playing in high altitude.
Impact: Clark had his spleen and gall bladder removed during separate operations and he lost 30 pounds after the Oct. 21, 2007, game in Invesco Field that ended his season. Many of Clark's teammates told him he should skip this game. Clark was doing some light running on the field Monday but was not going to dress for the game. He should be back Sunday against Cincinnati.
Mon. Nov 9, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Clark is out for Monday night's game in Denver because of possible sickle cell complications, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
Impact: Clark was actually cleared to play in the game -- possibly because he no longer has a spleen or gall bladder, thereby lessening or diminishing the chance of complications of high intensity exertion in a high altitude -- but the Steelers and the player seem to be doing the smart thing here by wiping out any risk.
Sat. Nov 7, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Fox will start against the Broncos Monday, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Impact: Lawrence Timmons will miss the Monday night game due to an ankle injury, so Fox will be inserted into the starting lineup. He racked up 15 tackles in the two games he started for Timmons at the start of the season and had a pick-six when he replaced Timmons against the Vikings in Week 7. There is no reason to think there will be a sharp drop in defense.
Sat. Nov 7, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Clark is listed as questionable due to an illness for Monday's game in Denver, according to the Steelers' injury report.
Impact: The Pittsburgh Tribune Review reports that Clark was a full participant in all three practices this week, but unlikely to play due to his rare blood disorder.
Sat. Nov 7, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Timmons (ankle) is listed as doubtful for Monday's game against the Broncos, the Steelers' official site reports.
Impact: The Pittsburgh Tribune Review reports that Timmons won't play Monday, despite being listed as doubtful. "I am not going to be able to play," Timmons said after missing Saturday's practice. Keyaron Fox will get the start.
Sat. Nov 7, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Timmons (ankle) returned to practice Friday, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Impact: Timmons was limited Friday, but it was the first time he practiced this week. The team has not said if he will play against the Broncos Monday night, but odds are he will be limited for the game even if he is able to suit up.
Sat. Nov 7, 2009 | RotoWire
News: The Steelers will not make a formal announcement on whether or not Clark will play in Week 9, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Impact: "This is not about me. It's two good teams playing on Monday. Whether I play or not, the game is going to go on, and that's what I do know. They won't stop the game if I don't play," Clark was quoted. Although the team will not confirm his status prior to the game, Clark will be held out in all likelihood. The Steelers will use a combination of Tyrone Carter and Ryan Mundy in his place.
Fri. Nov 6, 2009 | STATS
News: The woman who filed a lawsuit accusing Roethlisberger of raping her has quit her job at the Lake Tahoe hotel-casino where she claims the assault occurred in the NFL quarterback's penthouse room more than a year ago.
Impact: The woman had been working as a VIP host at Harrah's Lake Tahoe in July 2008 when she alleges the two-time Super Bowl champ for the Pittsburgh Steelers lured her to his room under false pretenses and forced himself on her. He was in town playing in a celebrity golf tournament. Roethlisberger has denied the allegations and maintains the woman acted voluntarily at all times while in his room.
Fri. Nov 6, 2009 | RotoWire
News: The Steelers are expected to announce on Friday that Clark will not play against the Broncos in Week 9, according to KDKA.com.
Impact: It's the smart move by the Steelers considering the health complications Clark had when he played in Denver in 2007. Tyrone Carter is expected to start in place of Clark, but Ryan Mundy will also be in the mix for the game.
Fri. Nov 6, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Offensive coordinator Bruce Arians said Parker's turf toe is still not completely healed, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Impact: "He probably won't be (100 percent) the rest of the year," Arians was quoted. Some tough news for Parker here. It was already noticeable he lost a step before the injury. If his ability to plant, cut and go on the field will be hindered the rest of the year, the odds that he will be a strong factor in the rushing attack, let alone get the starting job back from Rashard Mendenhall, don't look too rosy at this point.
Fri. Nov 6, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Fox may start against the Broncos in Week 9, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Impact: Lawrence Timmons is day-to-day with the ankle injury he suffered in Week 7, so odds are Fox will start and play in place of Timmons Monday. Fox has played well when called upon in Timmons' absence this year and it looks like he'll get another chance Monday night.
Fri. Nov 6, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Timmons (ankle) may not start against the Broncos in Week 9, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He said it is "day-to-day" if he will play at all Monday night.
Impact: Timmons said on his blog that he had to wear a protective boot for about a week, and although it is off now, he is not able to run. Unless the team gives a clear, positive injury status prior to Sunday, you might want to consider sitting Timmons this week. Those in IDP leagues run the risk of getting short-changed a player if he winds up being a game-time decision since the Steelers are on Monday night.
Thu. Nov 5, 2009 | STATS
News: Clark may be saying everything he needs to say with his growing silence. The safety is usually one of the team's most talkative players, but he is saying little as it becomes increasingly likely he won't play Monday in Denver due to a rare blood condition that nearly caused him to die after playing there two years ago.
Impact: Nearly all of Clark's teammates are urging him to skip the game. The other Steelers safeties are being readied to play, and Clark does not appear as upbeat or as excited as he normally does before a game. Before practice on Thursday, when he often chats with reporters, he sat alone in front of his locker, looking at messages on his cell phone.
Thu. Nov 5, 2009 | STATS
News: Roethlisberger may be especially eager to go to the no-huddle Monday night in Denver, given how much success the Ravens had while running 31 plays out of no-huddle sets during their 30-7 victory over the Broncos on Sunday.
Impact: Roethlisberger excels with the no-huddle. "It's a possibility," Roethlisberger said. "We'll go into it with the mentality that we'll go in with the game plan we've got and, if we need to go into the no-huddle, we'll do it."
Thu. Nov 5, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Parker is not listed on Thursday's practice participation/injury report.
Impact: It looks like Parker is past the illness that slowed him on Monday. On top of that, his toe is coming around. Still, he'll be working behind Rashard Mendenhall Monday against the Broncos.
Wed. Nov 4, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Mendenhall will start against the Broncos in Week 9, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette confirms.
Impact: If Mendenhall exhibits trouble handling the altitude at Denver (or perhaps if his fumble issues still plague him), Willie Parker might get more involved in the offense since he said his health issues (turf toe, illness) have improved. However, whether it's Mendenhall or Parker, the Steelers have a tough task at hand Monday night. The Broncos are allowing an average of just over 86 yards on the ground per game and have given up only three rushing touchdowns this season.
Wed. Nov 4, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Parker (illness) might not use the shoes designed for his turf toe in Week 9, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Impact: Parker, who also said he has recovered from his recent illness, feels the toe has recovered to the point that he will not need to don the specially-designed shoes. He will again back up Rashard Mendenhall against the Broncos, but might see more carries than he has the last two games since he is used to the altitude problems at Denver.
Wed. Nov 4, 2009 | RotoWire
News: The Steelers are leaning towards holding Clark out of the Monday night matchup with Denver, according to NFL.com.
Impact: No word has come from the organization, but "league sources" say the team does not want to risk any complications with Clark's sickle-cell trait. If Clark does sit the game out, Tyrone Carter is expected to start in his place.
Wed. Nov 4, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Timmons (ankle) did not practice Thursday, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
Impact: Timmons downplayed the ankle injury last week and said he expected to play in Week 9, but he has yet to practice this week. The team has not said if his status is in jeopardy at this point.
Wed. Nov 4, 2009 | RotoWire
News: If Ryan Clark is held out of Monday night's game against the Broncos, Carter will start in his place, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Impact: Carter also got the nod earlier this season when Troy Polamalu injured his knee, so it makes sense to turn to Carter once again.
Tue. Nov 3, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Polamalu (knee) did not practice Monday, the Beaver County Times reports.
Impact: Polamalu is certain he will play against the Broncos Monday night, however, so the move was just to give added recovery time to his injured knee.
Tue. Nov 3, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Holmes is not worried about complications from sickle-cell trait when the Steelers play at Denver in Week 9, the Pittsburh Post-Gazette reports.
Impact: Holmes said he only had some trouble breathing in the 2007 game, not like teammate Ryan Clark, who had his gall bladder and spleen removed after the game. "It hadn't affected me the last time we played there so I don't think it will this time," Holmes was quoted.
Tue. Nov 3, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Timmons (ankle) did not practice Monday, the Steelers' web site reports.
Impact: Coach Mike Tomlin said Timmons is considered questionable at this point. The team is off Tuesday, so we'll check back on Wednesday to see if Timmons has improved any.
Tue. Nov 3, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Parker did not practice Monday due to illness, the Steelers' web site reports.
Impact: Coach Mike Tomlin said Parker "was running a fever so we sent him to the docs...I anticipate him being fine." There is no Tuesday practice, so we'll check back on Wednesday to see if Parker returns.
Nov 1, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Clark has been medically cleared to play in Denver Week 9, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Impact: "Basically, I've been cleared by all the doctors, but the decision still hasn't been made," Clark said. It looks like we'll have to wait a few more days to hear if Clark and the team decide playing is worth the risk.
Thu. Oct 29, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Smith (torn rotator cuff) has not yet undergone surgery, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Impact: Smith's surgery has been delayed twice, once because of the flu and most recently because of a sinus infection. He will have the surgery as soon as the infection clears up. Smith, who is undergoing the same surgery Hines Ward had this past offseason, is expected to be fine for the 2010 season.
Thu. Oct 29, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Harrison was named the NFL's Defensive Player of the Month, the Steelers' web site reports.
Impact: In four October games, Harrison piled up 25 total tackles, seven sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. He leads the Steelers with 35 solo tackles and eight sacks for the season and is an every-week player in IDP leagues. Just remember not to play him this week with the Steelers on bye.
Tue. Oct 27, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Timmons said he suffered a Grade 1 sprain of his right ankle in Sunday's game against the Vikings, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Impact: Timmons said the injury is "not a big deal" and he expects to play against the Broncos in Week 9. He also added that he should come back faster from the ankle injury he sustained in the first game of the season, especially with the team on bye. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that only rookies and players on the practice squad will practice this week. All other players are off until Monday.
Mon. Oct 26, 2009 | STATS
News: Holmes had two catches for 59 yards Sunday in the Steelers' 27-17 win over Minnesota.
Impact: Holmes hasn't had quite the season many expected of him, but he has made big catches when they count, much like he did in securing the Steelers' Super Bowl victory over Arizona.
Mon. Oct 26, 2009 | STATS
News: Ward was held to one catch for three yards Sunday in the Steelers' 27-17 win over Minnesota.
Impact: The NFL's leading receiver coming into the game, Ward was hardly thrown to Sunday, but that's not completely out of character for a team that has Heath Miller, Santonio Holmes and Mike Wallace. Expect Ward to get the ball much more after Pittsburgh's bye.
Mon. Oct 26, 2009 | STATS
News: Mendenhall had 10 carries for 69 yards but also had a costly fumble in the Steelers' 27-17 win over Minnesota on Sunday.
Impact: Mendenhall is emerging as the Steelers' no-doubt starter over Willie Parker, but he's still fumbling too much for coach Mike Tomlin's liking.
Mon. Oct 26, 2009 | STATS
News: Roethlisberger was 14 of 26 for 175 yards and a touchdown Sunday in the Steelers' 27-17 win over Minnesota.
Impact: It wasn't the best fantasy day for the QB who came into the day leading the NFL in passing, but the Steelers scored two defensive touchdowns, thus limiting somewhat how much Roethlisberger was needed.
Mon. Oct 26, 2009 | STATS
News: Clark isn't injured, yet he isn't sure if he can play in the team's next game Nov. 9 at Denver. Doctors told him his sickle-cell trait was aggravated by the high altitude in Denver and caused a serious blood disorder. Because of his condition, Clark also had problems playing in Denver while he was with the Redskins in 2005.
Impact: Clark became ill during an Oct. 21, 2007, game in Denver and spent the night in a Denver hospital. His condition worsened after he returned to Pittsburgh. Clark had to have his spleen and gall bladder removed, and he lost more than 30 pounds before finally regaining his strength.
Mon. Oct 26, 2009 | RotoWire
News: No decision has been reached yet on whether or not Clark will play against the Broncos in Week 9, the Beaver County Times reports.
Impact: Clark has sickle-cell trait and it has adverse reactions to the altitude in Denver (he had to have his spleen and gall bladder removed the last time he played in Denver). He said physicians have been consulted and "things look good," but he also stated "it's still a tough decision." With the Steelers on bye for Week 8, the team has extra time to render a decision.
Mon. Oct 26, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Polamalu (knee) did wear a knee brace against the Vikings Sunday, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review confirms.
Impact: Polamalu was asked how well he moved sporting the brace and simply said "good enough to win." At least he gets some extra recovery time for the knee as the Steelers are on bye in Week 8.
Mon. Oct 26, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Mendenhall's fumble issues has not caused him to lose his job as starting running back at this point, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Impact: Coach Mike Tomlin was asked if he would re-think Mendenhall being first on the depth chart due to his red zone fumbles the past two weeks and he responded, "Not at all." Good news for Mendenhall, for now, but it's definitely an issue the team will continue to address as they have this past week.
Oct 25, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Reed made both of his field goal attempts against the Vikings Sunday.
Impact: Reed was able to put aside the controversy of his off-field incident from last Sunday. He connected on field goals from 39 and 27 yards and added three PATs.
Oct 25, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Woodley returned a fumble recovery for a 77-yard touchdown in Sunday's game against Minnesota.
Impact: The Steel Curtain defense has had a tough time in the fourth quarter this year, but stepped up their game this time to snag the win. Woodley's touchdown gave the Steelers a 10-point lead with under seven minutes left and then fellow linebacker Keyaron Fox returned an interception for a touchdown with a minute left to ice the game.
Oct 25, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Polamalu (knee) had six tackles and two passes defensed against Minnesota in Week 7.
Impact: Polamalu had his knee checked out by the medical staff on the sidelines at one point but it didn't seem to be anything major as he played the whole game. You can tell he doesn't have full mobility, but is still a factor on the field and for the Steelers' psyche.
Oct 25, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Harrison notched a pair of sacks and six solo tackles in Sunday's win over the Vikings.
Impact: After failing to record a sack in the first two games, Harrison has rolled off eight in the last five weeks. Unfortunately, you will not have his services in Week 8 with Pittsburgh heading to their bye.
Oct 25, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Clark had seven tackles (six solo) against the Vikings in Week 7.
Impact: Clark bounces back from his quiet Week 6 (two tackles) and now has 39 total tackles for the season.
Oct 25, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Farrior racked up 15 tackles (nine solo) and a sack in Sunday's win over Minnesota.
Impact: The 34-year old tackling machine shows he still has plenty of tread left on the tires. He bumps his season total up to 49 tackles with Sunday's performance.
Oct 25, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Ward had just one catch for three yards in Week 7.
Impact: Weeks like this are bound to happen as it was by far the worst game of the season thus far for Ward, who had been averaging six catches and 99 yards per game. Just remember to sit Ward and crew in Week 8 as they are on bye.
Oct 25, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Miller had six catches for 38 yards (no touchdowns) against the Vikings in Week 7.
Impact: Miller's run of three games with a touchdown came to an end Sunday, but he extended his run of five or more receptions to five games. He now has 40 catches this season, which is tops among tight ends across the league.

News: Holmes had two catches for 59 yards in Sunday's win over Minnesota.
Impact: With 497 yards receiving, Holmes is on pace for his first 1,000 yard season. However, he is also on pace for his lowest touchdown total since his rookie season. Holmes had a touchdown catch against the Vikings called back by a offensive pass interference call (on Heath Miller), so bottom line, he failed to put a notch in the touchdown column for the sixth straight week. Those in touchdown heavy leagues get a breather in Week 8 from the frustration as the Steelers are on bye.

News: Wallace had three receptions for 72 yards and a touchdown in Week 7. He also added two rushes for 19 yards.
Impact: Wallace is really coming through as a big-play man for Steelers now. He may not haul in a ton of catches (averages three per game), but he definitely makes them count. He is now averaging about 64 yards receiving per game over the last five contests and with 368 yards receiving for the season. He now ranks among the top 30 in the league. He is not really a WR1 or WR2, but scoop him up if he is somehow still available in your league.

News: Parker had just one carry for two yards in Sunday's matchup with the Vikings.
Impact: The Steelers didn't really try to eat up the clock via the ground game in general as Rashard Mendenhall had just 10 carries (albeit for 69 yards). Parker didn't really get much of a chance to show that the turf toe is doing better, so as of this point, assume it's status quo. Luckily, the Steelers are on bye in Week 8, so he gets some extra rest and recovery at the right time.

News: Mendenhall (knee) rushed 10 times for 69 yards (zero touchdowns) against the Vikings Sunday.
Impact: Mendenhall was again effective at running the ball (particularly in the second half with 52 yards) and had carries of 14, 16 and 17 yards in the game. However, he lost a crucial fumble in the red zone for the second straight week. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that Steelers worked on Mendenhall's fumble issues this past week, but it looks like he needs some extra attention. The team turned to Mewelde Moore when they got the ball back from Minny after the Mendenhall fumble.

News: Roethlisberger went 14-for-26 with 175 yards and a touchdown in the Week 7 win over Minnesota.
Impact: It's the first time this season Roethlisberger attempted less than 30 passes and threw for under 200 yards. The game plan seemed almost timid in nature as the Steelers did not seem interested in really exploiting the absence of Antoine Winfield in the secondary. Regardless, the Steelers walked away with the win for the fourth straight week and now stand at 5-2 heading into their bye week.

News: Fox had an 82-yard interception return for a touchdown against the Vikings Sunday.
Impact: Fox came in the game in place of Lawrence Timmons, who left the game with an ankle injury. His play sealed the win for the Steelers as it came with the Vikings deep in Steeler territory and looking to either tie the game with a field goal or go for the win.

News: Timmons left Sunday's game against the Vikings in the fourth quarter with what appeared to be an ankle injury.
Impact: Timmons was able to walk off on his own, but was replaced by Keyaron Fox for the remainder of the game. Keep in mind, though, the Steelers are on bye in Week 8 so Timmons should have plenty of time to recover as long as the injury is not severe.

News: Sweed is inactive for Sunday's game against the Vikings.
Impact: Shaun McDonald gets the nod as the Steelers' No. 4 receiver against an injury-stricken Minnesota secondary in Week 7.

News: Mendenhall (knee) is active for Sunday's game against the Vikings, the Steelers' official site reports.
Impact: The Vikings are banged up in the secondary, so look for the Steelers to try and take advantage of their weakness through the air. That said, Mendenhall is a strong play even against a tough Minnesota run defense since he's usurped Willie Parker for the starting gig.

News: Polamalu (knee) is active for Sunday's game against the Vikings, the Steelers' official site reports.
Impact: As far as your IDP plans go, Polamalu is ready to roll again in Week 7 if you need him.
