News: James -- whose 2013 season ended with a broken left ankle last November -- is progressing well in his recovery, the Buccaneers' official site reports.
Impact: The report notes that James, who played at about 228 pounds last season, has added some muscle to his upper body. Meanwhile, James has been running and in his words, is "very, very close" to being fully cleared. Once he's up to speed, James (who now checks in at 232 pounds) is in line to compete with Bobby Rainey for work behind the Bucs' top back, Doug Martin.

News: Glennon plans to compete with Josh McCown for Bucs' starting QB job, the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Impact: Although the free agent signee McCown wil enter training camp as the No.1, Glennon's respectable showing as a rookie combined with McCown's uneven track record should give Glennon a chance to play in 2014 at some point. However, if the Bucs' draft a QB high in the 2014 draft, then all bets are off.

News: The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed Wright.
Impact: Wright spent the first four seasons of his career with the Chicago Bears, who drafted him in the third round in 2010. He's started 42 of 54 career games and returned three of his nine interceptions for touchdowns. He reunites with former Bears coach Lovie Smith.

News: The Buccaneers have signed Hawkins.
Impact: While Hawkins didn't record a catch in four games with the Chargers this past season, he played for Buccaneers offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford while the two were with Cal, so it's possible that Hawkins could climb up a Tampa Bay wideout depth chart that remains fluid behind top receiver Vincent Jackson.

News: Wright agreed to a one-year contract with the Buccaneers on Friday, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reports.
Impact: Wright really broke through with the Bears last season, finishing second on the team with 100 tackles (78 solo) while also recording two interceptions, two forced fumbles and a defensive score. Wright will rejoin Lovie Smith -- who coached him in Chicago from 2010-12 -- in Tampa, and should open next year as the starter at strong safety.

News: Wright is expected to sign with the Buccaneers, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Impact: The deal is not yet official, but it sounds like Wright will head to Tampa to reunite with coach Lovie Smith. Wright racked up a career-high 100 tackles (78 solo) last season, while forcing two fumbles and intercepting two passes in 15 games. He'd presumably start at strong safety opposite Dashon Goldson.
