Penguins fans — and commissioner Gary Bettman — were certainly holding their breaths when Sidney Crosby collapsed to the ice after taking a puck to the face Tuesday night. Ultimately he got back to his feet, and missed less than five minutes of action. He even notched an assist in Pittsburgh's 4-2 win at the Islanders.

Chicago center Jonathan Toews collides with San Jose goalie Antti Niemi on Tuesday night in perhaps the best matchup of the season so far. The two teams entered the game with only one regulation loss combined, and by the end of the first period put up six goals, three apiece, in San Jose.

Like this joust between the Blackhawks' Viktor Stalberg (No. 25) and Sharks' Justin Braun, the game was hard-fought and close, with the outcome not decided until Chicago's Patrick Kane scored an empty netter with 72 seconds to play in a 5-3 Chicago win. The Blackhawks are now 8-0-2 on the season.

Winnipeg forward James Wright knocks Florida forward Jerred Smithson into the boards during Tuesday night's game in Winnipeg. Wright and the Jets got the last laugh, too, winning 3-2 in OT.

Tampa Bay goalie Anders Lindback makes a save against Philadelphia center Danny Briere during the first period on Tuesday night in the City of Brotherly Love. And though Lindback made 22 saves, a 23rd would have really been great as the Lightning fell 2-1.

Ultimately, though, host St. Louis never really did get off the ground, falling behind 3-0 in the first and losing 6-1. Perron did register an assist on the Blues' goal.

On Monday night in Denver, referee Chris Rooney was knocked down after a puck hit him in the face in the first period of a game between the Dallas Stars and host Avalanche. While the initial scene was scary, Rooney was able to skate off the ice with assistance.

... the Stars' Jamie Benn (No. 14) scored a pair of goals in the game Monday night, including the game winner in the second period. Dallas beat Colorado, 3-2.

San Jose goalie Thomas Greiss makes the save against the attacking Bryan Allen (No. 55) and Kyle Palmieri (No. 51) of the Ducks on Monday night. The Sharks entered the game having not lost in regulation yet this season. But ultimately ...

Corey Perry (No. 10), Ryan Getzlaf (No. 15) and the rest of the Ducks celebrate Sheldon Souray's third-period goal that gave the host Ducks a 2-1 lead — which held for the final score. Anaheim now sits only two points behind San Jose.

Monday's contest in Glendale, Ariz., was not decided until there were nothing but zeroes on the clock, but when it ended, Coyotes goalie Mike Smith and teammate Zbynek Michalek were able to celebrate a 2-1 victory.

Carolina center Jordan Staal scores his first goal as a member of the Hurricanes on Monday night, beating Maple Leafs goaltender James Reimer in the second period. The goal tied the game at 1-1 and sparked a four-goal surge that resulted in 4-1 win for the visiting Panthers.

There have been questions about Roberto Luongo's future in Vancouver. But there was no question he was ready for this shot Monday night off the stick of Edmonton's Jordan Eberle. He made the third-period save in a game ultimately won by the Canucks in overtime.
