In 2011, the NHL saw seven Game 7s during the Stanley Cup playoffs. Seven! The defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks were eliminated in the first round in an overtime loss to the Vancouver Canucks in one of four Game 7 series in the first round alone — half of all first-round matchups. And the Stanley Cup Finals went to an epic Game 7 between the Bruins and Canucks — again — which Boston was able to win 4-0 to secure its spot in the history books.

And with the young talent stepping up this season, fans can expect the team to be a contender again in 2012. Winnipeg said goodbye to the NHL in 1996 when the original Jets moved to Phoenix to become the Coyotes, but fans hoped they would get a second chance for a professional team. In May, an ownership group bought the Atlanta Thrashers and moved the team north. Tickets sold out quickly and the new version of the Jets made its official return to the Great White North in front of a packed crowd on Oct. 9.
