Last season's Presidents Trophy winners as the top regular season club were embarrassed by their first round elimination by the upstart Montreal Canadiens, which will serve as strong motivation to finally push this club over the top. Despite another strong performance (50-59-109), last season was a disappointment for Ovechkin as suspensions cost him a chance to win the Hart and Art Ross trophies as the league's most valuable player and leading scorer -- not to mention his Capitals suffered an embarrassing first round playoff exit. He'll be determined to raise his game and that of his team, which could result in one of his best seasons ever.

Having last season led the Kings in ice time, placed second in team scoring and third in scoring amongst NHL defensemen, Doughty -- the second youngest runner-up for the Norris in NHL history -- could become one of the youngest defensemen to win the award. If he follows up that performance with another strong one this season, Bryzgalov could not only make the Coyotes a playoff team again but could get his due as the league's top goalie. Kesler's a terrific two-way center who is now almost as strong offensively as he is defensively, making him an indispensable member of the Canucks roster.
