News: Staal collected an assist in Thursday's 4-1 win over Philadelphia. Impact: What a difference a year can make for the veteran defenseman. It was a little over a year ago that Staal had to leave after taking a puck to the eye against the Flyers, then quickly exited his one and only playoff game against the Capitals last season due to a recurrence of symptoms from the injury. The 27-year-old defenseman has five goals and seven assists through 44 career playoff games.(RotoWire, )

News: Staal was given The John Halligan Good Guy Award by the Metro NY/NJ media, reports reports Andrew Gross of The Record. Impact: Ironically enough, the award comes on the heels of Staal uncharacteristically leaving the locker room before reporters could question him about a latehit from Chris Neil in Saturday's loss to Ottawa. Obviously, this type of recognition has little impact on Staal's declining offensive production. The veteran, who has been logging more time with stay-at-home defenseman Anton Stralman of late, is minus-3 with three goals and 11 assists in 69 games played this season.(RotoWire, )
