News: Despite posting career highs in games played, goals and points, Foligno and the Sabres expect much more from him next year, reports The Buffalo News. Impact: Foligno's seven goals and 19 points in 74 games played this season just simply isn't enough. Too often during the season the budding power forward would drift through games, going for long stretches without contributing. Head coach Ted Nolan shuffled Foligno around the lineup and cut his ice time when he felt Foligno wasn't playing up to standards. When Foligno's father, Mike, was a Sabre during the 1980's, he very much endeared himself to fans with his blue collar style. If the pucks weren't going in that night, he would find other ways to contribute, often by laying out big hits or dropping the gloves. The Sabres would like to see more of that from Marcus, who now has 135 games of NHL experience under his belt. Foligno will be a restricted free agent this summer and will likely get a "bridge" contract for a wait-and-see approach to see if he has a future with the franchise. Foligno's 206 hits led all Sabres forward, but managed just 79 shots on goal in 74 games. Perhaps making an effort to shoot the puck more will help his offensive production next year.(RotoWire, )
