News: Backlund (hand) will compete for Sweden in the IHHF World Championships in Belarus in May, Kristen Odland of the Calgary Herald reports. Impact: This bit of news would suggest that the Flames are confident Backlund will be recovered from his left thumb injury by that time. The Swedish team will play their first preliminary game May 1 in Stockholm, and Backlund doesn't anticipate to be limited in his preparation.
