News: Spezza had a goal and two assists Thursday in a 3-2 overtime win over the Lightning. It was his first goal of the season. Impact: Sidelined the previous two games because of back pain, Spezza drove a slap shot past Antero Niittymaki for his third point of the game after Tampa Bay's Mattias Ohlund was sent off for holding 3 minutes into overtime. "I felt pretty good about my game going into tonight and I just wasn't getting many bounces," said Spezza, a 30-goal scorer each of the last three seasons. "It's nice to get one, though, to get the monkey off a little bit."(STATS, 3:58PM)

News: After picking up his ninth and 10th assists of the year in regulation, Spezza (undisclosed) finally scored his first goal of the year in overtime Thursday to beat the Lightning. Impact: Spezza had eight assists in his 10 games this year, but the perennial 30-goal scorer's shots on goal numbers had dropped significantly. We can only hope that finally breaking through means Spezza is getting over the injuries that have slowed him early on.(RotoWire, )

News: Spezza (undisclosed) will be back in the lineup for Thursday's game against Tampa Bay, confirms TSN.ca. Impact: This is great news for both the Sens and Spezza's fantasy owners. Spezza missed two games, both of which Ottawa lost. He'll center the first line with Milan Michalek and Daniel Alfredsson flanking him.(RotoWire, )

News: Spezza (undisclosed) skated with the team at Wednesday's practice and could be available for Thursday's game against Tampa Bay reports the Ottawa Citizen. Impact: It sounds like Spezza is close to returning to game action, but keep a close eye on him as his injury (likely the lower back or groin) could flare up on him without warning. Ottawa's brass wants to make sure that the injury doesn't become a season-long soap opera so they'll be careful with their No. 1 center.(RotoWire, )

News: Spezza (undisclosed) did not skate on Tuesday and is doubtful for Thursday's game, TSN.ca reports. Impact: Earlier reports suggested that Spezza will likely be out another week, so his absence figures to last another two games barring some rapid improvement with his undisclosed injury.(RotoWire, )

News: Spezza (undisclosed) will likely be out of action for another week reports the Ottawa Sun. Impact: The center has either a groin or back injury and has missed Ottawa's last two games. There is no word yet on the severity of Spezza's injury, but lucky for Ottawa there are only two games this week.(RotoWire, )

News: Spezza (upper body) will not play on Saturday against Atlanta confirms the Ottawa Sun. Impact: He's been battling either a back or groin injury since training camp, but decided, in conjunction with team doctors and coach Cory Clouston, to shut things down and heal the injury so it doesn't get worse. There's no word on how long Spezza will be out, but we'll update when we hear something more definite.(RotoWire, )

News: Spezza (upper body) did not skate on Friday and he will likely miss Saturday's game against Atlanta, TSN.ca reports. Impact: He's still considered day-to-day and the Sens haven't officially ruled him out, but you'll want to consider your alternatives on Saturday's lighter-than-usual 11-game schedule in the NHL.(RotoWire, )
Fri. Oct 30, 2009
News: Spezza is day to day with an upper-body injury. Impact: After missing Saturday's game against Atlanta, Spezza will now have a few days to get healthy before Thursday's game against Tampa Bay.(STATS, 1:32PM)
Thu. Oct 29, 2009
News: Spezza didn't play in Thursday's loss to Tampa Bay due to an upper-body injury, the Associated Press reports. Impact: The team clearly struggled without him, as they were down 5-0 at one point before losing 5-2. The first line didn't do much of anything in Spezza's absence.(RotoWire, )
