The Sharks outscored Detroit, Dallas and Colorado 13-4 as part of a 3-0 week. This should be the time San Jose makes the leap in the Pacific and the West.

11-6 -3 2 1/13
Dan Bylsma deserves so much credit for maintaining an upbeat locker room and keeping his players focused despite the injuries and distractions. Sid’s back. Game on, Pittsburgh.

12-6 -3 1 2/15
Chicago’s power play has risen from the dead over the last two weeks, converting on seven of its last 17 attempts. The Blackhawks average a healthy 3.3 goals per game.

11-5 -3 2 3/11
Eight players are in double-figures in scoring as part of the league’s top offense. There are some strong role players as well, including Max Talbot, Wayne Simmonds, and pesky 19-year-old Sean Couturier.

12-5 -3 11 1/28
Nicklas Backstrom and Josh Harding both sport sub-2.00 goals against averages. Minnesota is winning its games in net.

11-7 -1 2 2/20
The Wings are like the anti-Vancouver or Calgary. Everything has been a streak. Five wins. Six losses. Four wins. Two losses. Two wins. Jimmy Howard has carried the load and has been excellent.

12-8 -0 - 1/27
Tyler Myers hasn’t been able to find his stride yet, and suffered one of those “upper-body” injuries in a loss to Phoenix on Saturday. By the way, there’s a Boston-Buffalo rematch on Wednesday.

10-5 -3 5 9/27
Is anyone else surprised that Phoenix leads the league in the combined average of shots for and shots against per game with 65.9?

10-6 -3 2 10/19
Florida has won four of six and appears to be a playoff team at this point of the season. Two-way left winger Tomas Fleischmann (19 points in 19 games, plus-11) is a good fit for the Panthers.

10-5 -4 7 5/20
It’s not always pretty, but the Predators have points in 10 of the last 11 games. Pekka Rinne has been a horse, appearing in all but one game this year.

13

10-7 -1 9 1/21
The Capitals were outscored 14-3 last week. Neither Tomas Vokoun nor Michal Neuvirth have been able to pull them out of their skid.

10-7 -2 - 6/29
Oil Country busted out of a four-game skid with a commanding 9-2 win over Chicago. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins tallied five assists in the rout and is a point-a-game player nearly 20 games into his rookie season as an 18-year-old.

10-9 -1 3 2/18
The inconsistent Canucks have been a difficult team to figure out early this season. The league’s best power play will need to remain sharp in the upcoming trip to Colorado, Phoenix and San Jose.

16

10-7 -3 1 6/22
The Kings would be wise to play to their strongest assets: a herd of mobile, active defensemen. Slava Voynov has earned a regular spot with three goals and five points in eight games.

17

10-7 -2 6 1/24
The Blues haven’t lost in regulation since Ken Hitchcock took over, and remain one of the better five-on-five teams in the NHL.

11-8 -2 7 7/26
As long as Phil Kessel stays healthy, he’ll be in consideration for the Hart Trophy. The Leafs have one regulation win in their last eight.

10-7 -1 2 6/25
Ilya Kovalchuk scored a goal against Buffalo – his first since Oct. 15 – in his return after missing five games with a groin injury.

20

11-8 -0 18 2/21
A five-game losing streak has exposed Dallas’ weakness: at an average of 34.1 shots against, the Stars give up the most shots in the league. If Kari Lehtonen has an off night, the Stars are in trouble.

10-9 -2 4 7/30
Despite allowing 3.3 goals per game, the Sens would be in the playoffs if the regular season ended Monday. Erik Karlsson remains an exciting playmaker on the blue line and has tightened up defensively.

9-8 -3 - 18/30
With an excellent penalty kill and good goaltending, the Canadiens have the recipe for being a good road team this year. They’ve killed off 35 of 36 penalties.

8-9 -3 3 16/30
Winnipeg won all three games last week, but at what point does their daunting travel schedule begin to wear on them? Not in the near future – 11 of their next 15 are at home, where they’re 5-3-0.

9-11 -1 6 6/26
It should be disconcerting to Avs fans that Jean-Sebastien Giguere has started the last three games. Semyon Varlamov has had an awful November and Colorado has won just three of its last 13 games.

6-10 -4 - 10/30
Though the Ducks have lost four straight and 13 of 15, it’s not like they’re getting blown out regularly. They just haven’t found a way to win the close games.

7-11 -3 2 21/30
It’s hard to win games with nearly a full goal deficit in average goals for/average goals allowed.

4-13 -2 - 27/30
Jeff Carter isn’t getting traded any time soon, despite the rumors. There was improvement and character evident in a shootout loss at Boston and an overtime win at Nashville.
