There will be no interconference games until the Stanley Cup Final. That doesn’t mean we can’t compare East vs. West. The Western Conference is at least more competitive, if not much stronger top to bottom. Evidence? The top five teams in overtime/shootout wins are from the West.

We’re in the last week of February and Chicago still hasn’t lost in regulation. OK. There was that lockout thing, but, still, opening the season with 18 games without a regulation loss is impressive (and record-setting) in any season.

Jonas Hiller? Viktor Fasth? Doesn’t matter. Either seems to win in net — even when they fall behind, like Anaheim had done in the previous six games.

OK. The 8-3 setback against the Red Wings on Sunday wasn’t pretty. Still, February hasn’t been too bad. Vancouver is 7-2-2 in the month entering this week.

The Pens endured minus Sidney Crosby as he returned from his head injury. Now, it’s the team’s other star forward (Evgeni Malkin) who appears to be sidelined with a concussion.

The Habs remain one of the unexpected surprises this season, and they will continue their push with forward Max Pacioretty, who won’t face a suspension for boarding Rangers defenseman Ryan McDonagh.

Boston entered the week on a three-game winning streak, even if only one of those teams (the Lightning) would make the playoffs had the season ended on Sunday.

Sens goalie Craig Anderson needed to be helped off the ice after a collision on Thursday. Ben Bishop is a solid No. 2, but Ottawa will need a healthy Anderson to contend.

St. Louis finally won a game at home in February. The Blues' victory over the Blue Jackets on Sunday was the first this month at Scottrade Center, in their sixth attempt.

Among the top 11 teams, in terms of record, only the Devils have a negative goal differential. That will happen when you allow nine goals in two games.

Detroit is scoring. It’s mostly against Canucks goalie Roberto Luongo on Sunday (eight goals). The Wings also scored four off Preds goalie Pekka Rinne on Saturday.

San Jose could be set to get back on track on Tuesday as it plays a home game for the first time since Feb. 9, ending a woeful six-game trip that saw the Sharks drop all but one game.

The Leafs can be a little spotty on defense — and the team’s blue line is allowing a lot of shots. At 31.5, Toronto is 26th in the league in shots allowed.
