No one regulation loss is going to lead anybody to question the Chicago Blackhawks' dominance, even if it would have been to the Columbus Blue Jackets. That game on Friday went to OT and Sunday’s game in Detroit went into a shootout --- both games won by the ‘Hawks --- as Chicago’s record season-opening points streak hit 22 games.

Chicago has yet to disappoint, although it came close before a comeback OT victory to Columbus. Counting last season, the ‘Hawks (28 consecutive games with at least a point) are inching toward the 1979-80 Flyers’ record (35 games).

It wasn’t perfect (a regulation loss to the Kings and a shootout loss to Coyotes), but the Ducks netted seven of a possible 10 points in span when they played five games in seven days.

There was no sulking for the Habs after ending up on the losing end of a wild 7-6 OT game against the Pens. Heck, the Canadiens’ regulation unbeaten streak was still intact. The Habs ran it to 11 with a victory over the Bruins on Sunday.

Ryan Kessler’s return lasted all of two weeks. After finally coming back from shoulder surgery, Kessler is now out an extended period with a broken foot suffered last Tuesday. It’ll be interesting to see if the Canucks can thrive again without him.

The Sens have dropped three in a row and remain near the lower third in the league on the road (3-6-2). Also continuing the team’s injury woes, sidelined goalie Craig Anderson (ankle) has been “day-to-day” for nearly two weeks.

Carolina has won three in a row, but it comes with a couple asterisks. First, two of those wins were against pitiful Florida. (Props to the ‘Canes for a quality win against the Pens on Thursday.) The other is that they play in the Southeast.

Sure, the Habs’ turnaround should get lots of ink. But what about the Leafs? After changing general managers days before the start of the season, Toronto --- yes, I’ll say it – could be a playoff team.

Outside Saturday’s setback to Vancouver that halted a five-game winning streak, the defending champs had been on a run not seen since hoisting the Cup last June. No, LA wouldn’t be in the playoffs if the season ended Sunday. But there’s plenty of time.

It was a bold move giving up Michael Ryder for Erik Cole in a trade with Montreal. Still, it’s hard not to like what the veteran brings to a team – even an occasional goal like he provided against the Blues on Sunday.
