MALL MANIA Whether you have Hockey fans or young crime fighters, there's interactive fun for the kids at local malls.

In addition, there will be free prizes, entertainment and autographs by the Dallas Stars Ice Girls. SMELL THE ROSES - AND THE PAINT Looking for artistic inspiration? The kids should find some at Camp Fire USA Paint Out, a four-day family event where 40 Texas artists create original works of art amid the floral splendor of the Fort Worth Botanic Garden. The marathon begins Thursday from 8 a.m. to dusk and continues daily at that same time through Oct. 18. A Quick Draw Competition, in which artists will get 21/2 hours apiece to create a painting, will be held on the final day starting at 9 a.m. All works are available for pre-bidding at the event and for final bidding at An Artists' Christmas on Nov. 14. START YOUR BRAINS Art should make kids think - and that's the idea behind Art Thinkers' Day. The event, sponsored by Target at the Dallas Contemporary, runs Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Using the museum's current exhibit, "Vernon Fisher: Dead Reckoning" as inspiration, kids will be encouraged to design continents on maps they make themselves, look for similarities between objects, create a scientific drawing and explore different ways to make a watercolor painting. 2801 Swiss Ave. 214-821-2522. www.dallascontemporary.org.
