Another year of missing the playoffs has apparently cost Paul Maurice his job.

The Maple Leafs fired their coach on Wednesday, according to a TSN report, weeks after Toronto finished last in the Northeast Division.

Maurice had one year remaining on a three-year deal.

In a call Wednesday morning, Maurice told TSN that he was thankful to be let go now, rather than several months from now, so that it will be easier for him to land another NHL job.
