Why the Stars won: Dallas played with desperation, and its star players came through when called upon. Marty Turco played his best game by far in the series, making 33 saves, many of them clutch and spectacular. Sergei Zubov came up with two key assists, while Mike Modano and Brenden Morrow scored clutch goals. Special teams were also a key. Dallas killed off all six Detroit power plays while scoring once with the man advantage. The Stars also had 24 takeaways and blocked 20 shots.

Why the Red Wings lost: Detroit didn't play a bad game. It was simply unable to beat Turco when given the chance. The Red Wings outshot the Stars 34-24, including 29-13 in the final two periods, but only scored one goal. The Detroit power play was 0-for-6. Chris Osgood didn't play poorly but was not spectacular.

Key play of the game: The Red Wings appeared to have a 1-0 lead when Pavel Datsyuk put the puck in the net at the 7:34 mark of the second period. Instead, officials ruled that Tomas Holmstrom was in the crease and the goal was waved off. The play was not reviewable, but replays showed the call was questionable. Had Detroit taken a 1-0 lead, the momentum change would have been significant and the doubt Dallas was feeling being down in the series 3-0 would have been intensified.

What's next? Game 5 will be Saturday in Detroit, and the Red Wings will look to close things out. Detroit has to work on its power play and get more screens in front of Turco to get him off his game. The Stars will need to tighten up on defense and get another spectacular game from Turco if they hope to keep their season alive and force a Game 6 in Dallas. If they allow the Wings 34 more shots on goal, the odds of winning are not good.
