Flyers hire Reese as goalie coach, promote Paddock to front office
by The Philadelphia Daily News
To make the Flyers' goaltending change full circle - after they cleaned house of netminders Marty Biron, Antero Niittymaki and goaltending coach Reggie Lemelin - the Flyers announced yesterday that Jeff Reese will be Lemelin's replacement.
Reese, 43, spent the last eight seasons in a similar capacity with the Tampa Bay Lightning. An NHL veteran of 11 seasons, Reese will be responsible for monitoring new goaltenders Ray Emery, Brian Boucher and the rest of the goalies in the Flyers' organization. Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren also announced yesterday that John Paddock, the man who guided the Phantoms to a 43-30-2-5 record last season, will be joining him in the front office as assistant general manager.
Paddock, a former NHL head coach, player and general manager, will oversee the Phantoms in their new home in Glens Falls, N.Y.
"I am obviously thrilled about this," Paddock said. "This was not something that I imagined, just like last summer when I didn't imagine Paul would call me in August and offer me the Phantoms coaching job. The organization has been great to me. This is where I first cut my teeth into professional Hockey many years ago and I'm very excited to do it." *
