Sharks avoid arbitration with Nabokov

Nabokov has spent the first five seasons of his NHL career with the Sharks after San Jose selected him in the ninth round of the 1994 Entry Draft. He captured the Calder Trophy as Rookie of the Year for the 2000-01 campaign. In 59 games last season, he compiled a 31-19-8 record to go along with a 2.20 goals-against average and nine shutouts. He helped lead San Jose to its best campaign in franchise history. The Sharks captured the Pacific Division title and made their first trip to the Western Conference finals, where they lost to the Calgary Flames in six games. The 29-year-old Nabokov has appeared in 258 career NHL contests and owns a mark of 121-94-29.
