Handzus had wrist, knee surgeries
After the team’s Stanley Cup win, it was revealed that Handzus played through a broken wrist and torn MCL during the finals.
“I had two surgeries, but I’m healing and it’s coming along,” Handzus told ESPNChicago.com. “Right now, wrist, I still can’t do anything. It’s in a cast for one more week. After four weeks, I’m going to start to do something. It’s a little bit slower. My knee, it’s pretty much I’m rehabbing right now. [The doctors] are saying [I’ll be ready for training camp.]”
Handzus, 36, was acquired from the San Jose Sharks prior to the trade deadline last season and re-signed with the Blackhawks in early July. He had three goals and eight assists in 23 postseason games after having just two goals and six assists in 39 regular season games.
