Gagner, Oilers agree to three-year deal
The deal allowed them to avoid a salary-arbitration hearing scheduled for Monday. According to TSN, the contract is valued at $14.4 million for an average annual value of $4.8 million.
The 23-year-old tweeted that he was pleased to be staying with the team.
“So happy to remain an Edmonton Oiler for at least three more years. Thanks to everyone for the support. Time to get to work,” he tweeted.
Gagner was second on the team in scoring last season with 38 points in 48 games. He was second in assists with 24 and enjoyed a career-best 10-game point streak, registering 11 points (three goals, eight assists) during the stretch.
Gagner has spent his entire career with the Oilers, earning 258 points and 203 penalty minutes in 414 games. He ranks 17th all-time in Oilers scoring.
