News: Fiddler sustained an upper-body injury in the second period of a 5-1 win over Philadelphia on Saturday.
Impact: Dallas Stars coach Lindy Ruff said Fiddler will be re-evaluated on Monday. Ruff did not expect the injury to be serious.
News: Fiddler left Saturday's game with an upper-body injury, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Impact: No immediate information was available surrounding the circumstances of the injury or the extent of the damage. Fiddler will be listed as day-to-day until the Stars evaluate him in full after the game.
News: Ellis stopped 27 of 28 shots in Saturday's 5-1 win over the Flyers.
Impact: While Ellis was very good in his own right, much of the credit for this one lies with the Stars' attack, which blasted opposing goalie Steve Mason for four goals in the second period to provide plenty of breathing room. Ellis evened his season record at 3-3-0 with the easy win.
Alex Goligoski - #33 - Defense - 5'11" - 181lbs
News: Goligoski gathered two assists in Saturday's win over the Flyers.
Impact: With the Stars enduring a recent rash of injuries to their defenseman corps, Goligoski has earned an appointment to the top pairing, and he made the most of it Saturday. His assists came on two of the Stars' four second-period goals that effectively salted away the game for the hosts.
News: Seguin scored three goals and added an assist - all in the second period - in Saturday's win over the Flyers.
Impact: Seguin had turned in a string of uninspiring performances coming back from a recent concussion but was able to bust out in a big way Saturday, having a hand in all four scores in a huge second period for the Stars. He's now back to a point-per-game pace on the season and should continue to deliver excellent returns for fantasy owners.
News: Ellis will be between the pipes Saturday against the Flyers, Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact: Starts have been increasingly rare for Ellis since Kari Lehtonen returned from IR on Oct. 21, as the backup netminder will make just his third appearance in the net since that time. Ellis is not a great starting option Saturday against a surging Flyers squad that has won three of its last four and is coming of a season-best six-goal effort Wednesday against the Red Wings.
News: The Stars have ruled out Daley (ankle) for multiple weeks following Friday's MRI, Mark Stepneski of NHL.com reports.
Impact: Just as the team feared, Daley will likely head to injured reserve, joining fellow defenseman Stephane Robidas. Lengthy absences for two of the Stars' better blueliners could make life extremely difficult for goalie Kari Lehtonen in the games to come.
Travis Morin - #39 - Center - 6'1" - 190lbs
News: Morin was reassigned to AHL Texas on Friday.
Impact: Morin was up with the Stars for just two games before he was sent back to the AHL. The Stars will likely look to add an extra defenseman before Saturday's game to take Morin's place on the active roster.
News: Daley (ankle) was placed on injured reserve Friday.
Impact: This had been expected when he was officially ruled out for multiple weeks earlier in the day. The Stars will likely recall a defenseman or two to help stabilize the blue line while both Daley and Stephane Robidas are on IR.
News: Daley (high ankle sprain) will receive an MRI on Friday, TSN's Bob McKenzie reports.
Impact: The MRI should provide clarity regarding the extent of the injury, which Daley sustained while falling in Thursday's game against the Maple Leafs. With just five points in 27 games this season, Daley's potential absence largely concerns deep leagues only.
Shawn Horcoff - #10 - Center - 6'1" - 208lbs
News: Horcoff accounted for the majority of the Stars' offense in Thursday's overtime loss to Toronto, scoring one of their two goals -- a power-play tally -- and assisting on the other. He also went plus-1 and won 14 of 17 faceoffs.
Impact: The goal came on his only shot -- in fact, the only shot he's put on net in the last five games. Horcoff's got four points in the last four contests, a productivity burst that's coincided with a boost in ice time, as Horcoff skated 16:36, including nearly four minutes on the power play.
News: Seguin (concussion) put seven shots on goal and laid four hits in his return to the ice Thursday against Toronto, but went minus-1 without a point as the Stars fell in overtime.
Impact: Seguin's recent struggles and concussion have killed the Stars' momentum; in the last seven games, he's sat out twice and gone scoreless five times, and Dallas has dropped five of those seven contests, largely thanks to a silent offense. Still, Seguin played an impactful game despite his lack of scoring -- even winning seven of 11 faceoffs, an area where he's struggled this year -- and should get back on the scoreboard soon as long as his head feels right.
News: Lehtonen allowed three goals on 21 shots Thursday, including the game-winner in overtime off the stick of the Leafs' Trevor Smith.
Impact: While Lehtonen's largely remained a steady presence in net, the Stars' offense has dried up lately, thanks in large part to the struggles and concussion symptoms suffered by Tyler Seguin. Seguin's been either scoreless or out of the lineup for the last seven games, and in that span, Lehtonen has lost five times (thrice in overtime or the shootout), while the Stars have only exceeded two goals in a game one time.
Fri. Dec 6, 2013 | STATS
News: Daley left Thursday's 3-2 overtime loss to Toronto with a lower-body injury.
Impact: The Dallas Stars defenseman got tangled up with James van Riemsdyk on the play that led to a Maple Leafs first goal. Daley's left leg got caught up with the Leafs winger, and he slid into the boards.
Fri. Dec 6, 2013 | STATS
News: Garbutt has a lower-body injury for the Stars.
Impact: Garbutt's status going forward has not been announced.
News: Daley left Thursday's game with an apparent ankle injury.
Impact: The injury occurred when Daley collided with the Leafs' James Van Riemsdyk and awkwardly fell to the ice. He required assistance getting to the locker room, so those who own him in fantasy should check back to see if this is anything long-term.
News: Seguin (concussion) will be in the lineup Thursday against the Maple Leafs, Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact: Seguin sat out the Stars' last two games after suffering a concussion against the Blackhawks on Nov. 29, but will return to the ice for Thursday's game. With 12 goals and 11 assists in 24 games to date, the 21-year-old center is quickly developing into one of the league's top scorers, so it's good to see that his concussion apparently wasn't a very serious one.
News: Seguin (concussion) will be a game-time decision Thursday against the Maple Leafs.
Impact: Seguin took part in morning skate, centering Jamie Benn and Rich Peverley, but he'll undergo further testing during the afternoon before the Stars reach a final decision on his status. Coach Lindy Ruff was encouraged with how Seguin felt during Wednesday's practice and believes the center will be able to return to action after missing the previous two games.
News: Lehtonen is expected to start in goal Thursday against the Maple Leafs, Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact: Another day, another start in goal for Lehtonen, his 18th in the team's last 19 games. The Blackhawks fired 50 goals at Lehtonen on Tuesday, but the 30-year-old stopped 47 of them en route to a 4-3 win.
Wed. Dec 4, 2013 | RotoWire
News: Seguin (concussion) practiced for about 45 minutes Wednesday, Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact: Assistant coaches James Patrick and Curt Fraser both had positive remarks about Seguin's skate, but no official update on his status for Thursday's game against the Maple Leafs has been announced as of yet. Expect a decision on that matter to come down following morning skate Thursday.
News: Lehtonen faced 50 shots Tuesday in Chicago, but stopped 47 of them and came away with a 4-3 win.
Impact: Amazingly, the Stars were outshot by a whopping 50-18 margin, and yet still won. Much of that credit has to go to Lehtonen, who's been an absolute rock in goal this year despite having been on a four-game losing streak entering Tuesday's action.
News: Lehtonen will start in net Tuesday against the Blackhawks, Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact: Lehtonen has had an efficient season going 10-5-4 with a 2.18 GAA and .926 save percentage. He has been in a slide recently with the Stars dropping all four of his last four games. His path doesn't get easier Tuesday against the high-powered Chicago offense.
News: Seguin (concussion) is not expected to play Tuesday against Chicago, Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact: Seguin practiced on Monday and is expected to travel with the team for the two-game road trip, but a concussion will likely prevent him from playing Tuesday. The fact that he will travel with the team indicates he could play on Thursday in Toronto.
Mon. Dec 2, 2013 | STATS
News: Rome has a lower-body injury for the Stars.
Impact: Rome has landed on injured reserve for Dallas.
News: Seguin (concussion symptoms) skated during Monday's practice and will travel with the Stars for the team's upcoming two-game road trip, the Stars' official site reports.
Impact: Seguin was reportedly feeling much better Monday, indicating that he may be able to return either Tuesday in Chicago or Thursday in Toronto. It won't be surprising if he's a game-time decision Tuesday, though the Stars haven't said anything to that effect.
Mon. Dec 2, 2013 | STATS
News: Garbutt had two goals Sunday.
Impact: With three goals and two assists, Garbutt has recorded five of his seven points in the last three games.
Travis Morin - #39 - Center - 6'1" - 190lbs
News: Morin was recalled by the Stars from AHL Texas on Monday.
Impact: Morin has been bouncing between the NHL and AHL Texas this season, playing in only three games with the Stars. He has been a scoring machine in the AHL this season, but will likely be an extra forward while he is in Dallas.
News: Rome (lower body) was placed on injured reserve by the Stars on Monday.
Impact: Rome was placed on IR retroactive to Nov. 24 when he sustained a lower-body injury, so he would be eligible to return when he is ready. He has not suited up in the NHL this season, despite spending time on the roster.
Sun. Dec 1, 2013 | STATS
News: Seguin returned Thursday for the Stars.
Impact: Seguin, who has 12 goals, was out with concussion-like symptoms resulting from a hit during Friday's game against Chicago.
News: Seguin will not play Sunday against the Oilers due to concussion-like symptoms.
Impact: Previously listed as a game-time decision due to a "muscle issue," Seguin is reportedly showing symptoms of a concussion and will be held out of Sunday's game. His status for Tuesday is decidedly cloudy at the moment, but Cody Eakin figures to center the top line until Seguin has completely shaken the cobwebs.
News: Lehtonen will start in goal Sunday against the Oilers.
Impact: Lehtonen will be back between the pipes Sunday for his 16th start in the team's last 17 games. He faced the Oilers just a few weeks ago, stopping all 22 shots he faced in a shutout win.
News: Seguin (muscle issue) will be a game-time decision Sunday, Mark Stepneski of the Stars' team site reports.
Impact: Seguin has been banged up for a few days now and could really just use a little bit of rest. While you can credit the competitor for his desire to stay in the lineup, he's been held without a single point over his last four games and is minus-2 in that span. Taking a seat against a defensively challenged Edmonton team Sunday would be ideal, but we won't know until closer to game time.
News: Rome (undisclosed) skated on his own after Saturday's practice, NHL.com's Mark Stepneski reports.
Impact: Coach Lindy Ruff has previously characterized Rome's injury as a "muscle issue," but the details surrounding his situation remain ambiguous. He hasn't appeared in any games for the Stars since being recalled from AHL Texas on Nov. 18.
News: Robidas underwent surgery Saturday to repair a broken fibia and will be out for the next four to six months, TSN's Darren Dreger reports.
Impact: While the news of the successful surgery is encouraging, this was, more or less, the worst-case scenario for Robidas. He suffered a break in the fibula and had a rod inserted to help the injury heal properly. With proper rehab, the recovery time will probably lean closer to six than the minimum four months. He will be placed on injured reserve and a corresponding move will be announced soon.
News: Robidas (leg) underwent surgery Saturday morning, Mark Stepneski of the Stars' official web site reports.
Impact: Robidas suffered a broken leg after crashing into the boards during Friday night's game. The team has not updated anyone on the exact location or severity of the break, but from the sounds of everything, we can probably estimate somewhere in the six-to-eight-week range for recovery time. The team is supposed to update the media sometime in the afternoon on Saturday.
Rich Peverley - #17 - Center - 6'0" - 195lbs
News: Peverley scored his fifth goal of the season during the Stars' 2-1 shootout loss to the Blackhawks on Friday.
Impact: Peverely opened the scoring fairly early in the first period and it looked as if it would hold up as the game-winner until the Hawks tied it up in the third. He did his best to bring the win home by matching Chicago's goal in the shootout, but was left standing on the side as the Blackhawks won 10 shots later. Peverley has now tallied a point in each of his last three games and has five goals and seven assists through 23 games this season.
News: Lehtonen stopped 25 of 26 shots during regulation and overtime and then stopped 10 of 12 shots during the shootout as the Stars lost to the Blackhawks 2-1 on Friday.
Impact: Lehtonen was outstanding in this one but gave up a goal almost halfway through the third period which forced overtime. He and Chicago's Corey Crawford battled back and forth in the shootout, stopping shot after shot, but Lehtonen finally got beat by Ben Smith to the final goal of the game. Though he took the shootout loss here, Lehtonen is still 10-5-3 on the year with a 2.20 GAA and .926 save percentage.
Sat. Nov 30, 2013 | STATS
News: The Dallas Stars have placed Robidas on injured reserve with a broken right leg and recalled Jamie Oleksiak from their AHL affiliate.
Impact: The team said Saturday that the 36-year-old Robidas is expected to miss four to six months, jeopardizing his return this season. He was injured when he slid hard into the boards in the second period of a 2-1 shootout loss to Chicago on Friday.
News: Updating a previous item: Robidas was taken to the hospital after x-rays revealed a fracture in his leg, Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact: Robidas had crashed into the boards with his leg awkwardly tucked underneath him and was taken off the ice on a stretcher. Obviously it depends on the severity and location of the fracture, but it sounds like he could be out for a fairly long time.
News: Robidas suffered an apparently serious right leg injury during Friday's game against the Blackhawks, Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact: In the second period, Robidas slid into the end boards and his right leg seemed to twist under him. His teammates immediately called for a trainer, and while the exact nature severity of the injury is not yet known, it didn't look good. Trevor Daley figures to skate with Brenden Dillon on the top pair the rest of the way.
News: Seguin (general soreness) said following morning skate that he would be in the lineup Friday against the Blackhawks, NHL.com's Mark Stepneski reports.
Impact: Apparently, Seguin's successful participation in morning skate was the last barrier he needed to cross before he was deemed fit to play in games. The muscle soreness won't cost Seguin any contests, and he should continue to remain a highly productive scorer for the Stars, though Friday's game against the league-best Blackhawks represents a tough adversary.
News: Lehtonen is expected to receive the start in the net Friday against the Blackhawks, NHL.com's Mark Stepneski reports.
Impact: Lehtonen received the day off for the Stars' last game against the Ducks, so it stands to reason that he'll be back in goal Friday after he was the first goalie off the ice during morning skate. In spite of his recent rest and his solid numbers this season, Lehtonen probably isn't one of the better goalie plays in daily leagues going up against the reigning Stanley Cup champions, who have raced out to an NHL-best 18-4-4 record.
News: Seguin (general soreness) was on the ice for Friday's morning skate, NHL.com's Mark Stepneski reports.
Impact: Seguin is still officially considered questionable for Friday's game against the Blackhawks with the injury, but it seems more likely than not that he'll be back in the lineup without having to miss any games. As usual, Seguin skated on the top line with Jamie Benn and Valeri Nichushkin and would receive his typical amount of ice time Friday if he is cleared to play.
News: Rome is dealing with an undisclosed injury.
Impact: Rome suffered the injury in a recent practice and remained off the ice for Thursday's session. It would seem that he's unlikely to play Friday against the Blackhawks, but he's typically a healthy scratch for the Stars in any case.
News: Stars coach Lindy Ruff said Seguin (muscle soreness) "should be okay" for Friday's game against Chicago, but "not definitely," Mark Stepneski of the Stars' official site reports.
Impact: Seguin missed Wednesday's practice due to a "muscle issue." The Stars will likely confirm his status one way or the other after Friday's morning skate.
News: Lehtonen (dental work) returned to practice Thursday, Mark Stepneski of the Stars' official site reports.
Impact: Lehtonen missed Wednesday's practice to undergo a dental procedure, but he's back on the ice and should be available for Friday night's matchup with the Blackhawks.
Antoine Roussel - #21 - Left Wing - 6'0" - 180lbs
News: Roussel scored twice in Tuesday's 6-3 win over Anaheim.
Impact: It was the first two-goal game of his career. He has four in his last 10 games after going without a goal through the first 13 games of the season.
Cody Eakin - #20 - Center - 6'0" - 190lbs
News: Eakin scored and had an assist in Tuesday's 6-3 win over Anaheim.
Impact: It was his third multi-point game of the year and second in his last three games.
News: Garbutt had a goal and two assists in Tuesday's 6-3 win over Anaheim.
Impact: The three points more than doubled his season output. He now has five in 18 games this year. He'd never had more than a point in an NHL game.
News: Seguin was absent from Wednesday's practice due to a "muscle issue," NHL.com's Mark Stepneski reports.
Impact: It's believed that Seguin is just experiencing some soreness following Tuesday's game against the Ducks, so he's still expected to play when the Stars play their next game Friday against the Blackhawks. The Stars should confirm his availability during the morning skate that day.
News: Lehtonen missed Wednesday's practice to undergo dental work, NHL.com's Mark Stepneski reports.
Impact: Lehtonen's mysterious late scratch from Tuesday's start fueled speculation that he might have been nursing an injury, but it sounds like coach Lindy Ruff just wanted to give him a rest after the goalie started 14 games in a row for the Stars. The dental work isn't something that's expected to cost him any further games, so tentatively plan on having him available when the Stars resume game action Friday vs. the Blackhawks.
News: Whitney played just under 14 minutes in his return to game action Tuesday following a five-game absence.
Impact: Whitney skated on the second line alongside Cody Eakin and Alex Chiasson for the most part, and chipped in a third period assist to register on the score sheet.
News: Fiddler assisted twice in Tuesday's win over Anaheim. He also went plus-2 while winning 12 of 17 face-offs.
Impact: Fiddler dominated at the dot and snapped a seven-game pointless streak -- what more can you ask for? He skated more than 15 minutes for the second straight game in this one, as his role appears to be continually growing in Dallas. Fiddler's averaging under 12 minutes of ice time per game on the year, so this is quite the spike.
Cody Eakin - #20 - Center - 6'0" - 190lbs
News: Eakin scored a goal, added an assist and went plus-2 in Tuesday's win over the Ducks.
Impact: Eakin's been warming up lately, racking up five points in his last four games. He's been a consistent -- if not particularly prolific -- source of secondary scoring for the Stars all year, and that figures to continue.
Erik Cole - #72 - Right Wing - 6'2" - 210lbs
News: Cole picked up two assists and went plus-2 in Tuesday's win over the Ducks.
Impact: After an extended cold streak, the points are starting to come again for Cole, who has a goal and three assists in his last four games. He'd gone eight straight without a point prior to this little run, and at this point in his career, we've come to expect such inconsistency.
News: Ellis, making a rare -- and last-minute -- start in place of Kari Lehtonen, stopped 28 of 31 shots Tuesday in a win over Anaheim.
Impact: It wasn't the greatest outing for Ellis, but he was competent enough to take home just his second win in seven games (five starts) this season. Unless Lehtonen is injured, expect Ellis back on the bench Friday when the Blackhawks come to town.
News: Updating a previous report, Lehtonen will not be the starting goalie Tuesday against the Ducks, as backup Dan Ellis has been tabbed for the start.
Impact: The reports coming out of morning skate indicated that Lehtonen would be in the net Tuesday, but coach Lindy Ruff decided to switch things up at the last minute. There's no indication yet what prompted the switch, but Lehtonen is probably due for a day off after making 14 consecutive starts, the last of which was his worst effort of the season. He let in five goals on 18 shots before getting pulled in the third period of a loss to the Blues.
News: Ellis will get the start in goal Tuesday against the Ducks.
Impact: The Stars indicated during morning skate that No. 1 goalie Kari Lehtonen would be in the net for Tuesday's game, but it seems something prompted coach Lindy Ruff to turn in Ellis's direction. No word on whether Lehtonen suffered an injury to allow Ellis to gather the start, but he's probably due for a break after taking the last 14 turns in goal for the Stars.
News: Lehtonen is expected to start between the pipes for Tuesday's game against the Ducks, Mark Stepneski of the Stars' official website reports.
Impact: Lehtonen is coming off an ugly performance against the Blues in which he was pulled after yielding five goals. He was off to a solid start to the season, though, and still has a 10-5-2 record with a 2.28 GAA on the year. His recent struggles against the tough Ducks offense make him a lower-value play, but he's still a strong fantasy goalie every night.
News: Whitney (groin) was activated from injured reserve and will be in the lineup Tuesday against the Ducks, Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact: Whitney ended up missing five games with the groin injury and he will be ready to go Tuesday against the Ducks. With eight points in the first 17 games for the Stars, he is a low-scoring option at this point of his career.
Mon. Nov 25, 2013 | RotoWire
News: Whitney (groin) is expected to return for Tuesday's game against the Ducks, Mark Stepneski of Stars Inside Edge reports.
Impact: Whitney was questionable to return for Saturday's game against the Blues, but did not take the ice for the contest. It appears he is ready to go for Tuesday's tilt with the Ducks and will likely be activated from IR sometime Tuesday.
Sat. Nov 23, 2013 | RotoWire
News: Lehtonen was pulled Saturday after allowing five goals on 18 shots in a loss to the Blues. "I had a bad night," said Lehtonen. " I feel bad for the guys."
Impact: The guy was right -- the Stars outskated and outworked the Blues, but the 6-1 score didn't reflect that. Don't worry -- he'll bounce back.
Mon. Nov 18, 2013 | STATS
News: Lehtonen made 42 saves in Sunday's 2-1 win at Vancouver.
Impact: Lehtonen has now won three straight games while posting a 1.33 GAA. He is 10-3-2 with a 2.01 GAA on the season.
