Before Muhammad Ali, left, and Joe Frazier battled in the Fight of the Century in 1971 and here, at Madison Square Garden, in 1974, the legendary boxers sparred at the Olympic Games. In fact, both won gold medals. They're just two names on this list of the best Olympians who became professional boxing successes.

Clay won a gold medal in the light heavyweight division at the 1960 Games in Rome. After that, he changed his name to Muhammad Ali and became The Greatest. He went on to win the legendary "Rumble in the Jungle" against George Foreman and the "Thrilla in Manila" against Joe Frazier. He also was a world heavyweight champion. To commemorate his Olympic victory, Ali was given the honor of lighting the Olympic cauldron at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.

Boxing 1337185 43 Olympic boxers who found professional success 30907669 Joe Frazier Joe+Frazier Boxing Smokin' Joe Frazier brought home a gold medal from the 1964 Games in Tokyo, barely winning by decision while fighting with a broken thumb. His professional fight card lists several thrilling bouts against Muhammad Ali, including the "Fight of the Century," which he won by unanimous decision in 1971, and the "Thrilla in Manila" four years later, which Ali won after both of Frazier's eyes swelled shut. He retired from fighting after a 1981 draw to Floyd Cummings. He died on Nov. 7, 2011 at the age of 67 after battling liver cancer. He had his first professional bout a year later with the legendary Angelo Dundee serving as his trainer and manager. He eventually won world titles in five different weight divisions and became the first boxer to earn more than $100 million in purses. After several comebacks during his career, he fought his last bout in 1997. He also saw success as a professional, beating Joe Frazier for the world heavyweight title in 1973. He also fought -- and lost -- to Muhammad Ali in the legendary "Rumble in the Jungle" a year later. Foreman retired at the age of 48 in 1997 and has become well known as an entrepreneur, promoting the George Foreman Grill. After his success in Barcelona, De La Hoya went on to win 10 world titles in six different weight classes before retiring in 2009. He eventually became a world champion in both the cruiserweight and heavyweight divisions and beat fighters including George Foreman, Larry Holmes and Mike Tyson during his 57-fight career. Holyfield continues to fight, winning his latest bout against Brian Nielsen in 2011. He's still an active fighter who is slated to face Miguel Cotto in May 2012 in Las Vegas. He returned four years later and picked up a gold medal in Seoul, defeating Riddick Bowe, who also went on to a great professional boxing career. Lewis went on to win the heavyweight championship three times and defeated both Mike Tyson and Vitali Klitschko during his career. He retired in 2004. Leon went on to defeat Muhammad Ali in an upset to win the heavyweight championship among other fights before retiring at the age of 42 in 1995. Michael secured world championships in light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions before his 1988 retirement after a loss to Mike Tyson. He and his brother, Vitali Klitschko, are both heavyweight champions who continue to make an impact in the sport. Outside the ring, Klitschko is also a humanitarian. He auctioned off his gold medal for $1 million for charity, but the buyer kindly returned the medal to the boxer immediately after.
