China tops prelims in 3m springboard
BARCELONA, Spain (AP)
China is poised to retain another diving world title after Qin Kai and He Chong dominated the preliminaries in the men's 3-meter synchronized springboard on Tuesday.
Qin, the three-time defending world champion, and new partner He finished the six dives with a total of 454.32 points.
Russian pair Evgeny Kuznetsov and Ilia Zakharov, silver medalists at the 2011 worlds and 2012 Olympics, were second with 445.32. German duo Patrick Hausding and Stephan Feck were third with 427.68.
The other teams to advance to the final later Tuesday were Ukraine, United States, Mexico, Britain, Greece, Malaysia, South Korea, Italy and Cuba.
China has so far won three of the four world diving golds at Montjuic pool, with its majestic views of Barcelona.
