The United States team of Carmelita Jeter (pictured in red), Allyson Felix, Tianna Madison and Bianca Knight did not just win gold — it shattered the world record on Friday. The Americans clocked in at 40.82 seconds, more than half-second better than the previous record set in 1985. It was also the US' first Olympic gold in the event since 1996. Jamaica won silver and Ukraine took bronze.

For the third straight Olympics, the United States faced Argentina in the semifinals. And for the third straight Olympics, the Americans advanced to the gold-medal match. On Friday, the US pulled away from Argentina, 109-83. Oklahoma City Thunder player Kevin Durant led the US with 19 points. This incarnation of the Dream Team, whose most veteran player is Kobe Bryant (pictured with ball), will play for the gold medal against Spain on Sunday in a rematch of the gold-medal game from four years ago.

Russia's synchronized swimming team retained its Olympic crown with a gold-medal routine on Friday. The Russians have now won four straight Olympics gold in the sport and have won every synchronized swimming world championship since 1998.

A 2-0 victory over Japan earned South Korea a bronze in the men's soccer finals — the first-ever medal won by the country in the sport.

The United States men's 4x400 relay team, one of the most dominant teams in recent Olympics history, was stunned Friday when a team from the Bahamas took gold in the event with a time of 2:56.72. The US, which had won seven straight golds in the event, finished second, 0.33 seconds behind.

The Netherlands women's field hockey team (the hottest team at the Olympics) capped off its perfect run through London with a win over Argentina for gold. It makes the Dutch repeat winners after they took gold in Beijing in 2008.

Mariana Pajon of Colombia, the reigning women's BMX world champion, took home the gold in the Olympics BMX finals Friday. Her win marks Colombia's first gold medal in London. Sarah Walker of New Zealand took the silver medal, while Laura Smulders of the Netherlands took the bronze.

Sebastian Eduardo Crismanich of Argentina defeated Spain's Nicolas Garcia Hemme to take home a gold medal in the Men's -80kg Taekwondo final.
