Ngangbam Soniya Chanu is an Indian weightlifter who hails from Imphal, Manipur. She competes in the Women's 48kg category. Her first big victory came when she won the silver medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi in front of her home crowd. At the 2011 World Weightlifting Championships she finished a commendable 11th position. Chanu was officially selected by the Indian Weightlifting Federation to compete in the 2012 London Olympics after the body earned two Olympic berths in the recently concluded Senior Asian Championships at Pyeongtaek, South Korea
