It may have ended with redemption, but more than anything else, Team USA's 118-107 victory over Spain resembled a Phoenix Suns intra-squad game.

Miserable defense inside, outside and on the weak side.

But seeing as how the Americans found themselves standing on the highest part of the podium after settling for back-to-back bronzes in the last two major international competitions, we'll overlook the harder-than-expected time the U.S. had with Spain.

Instead, we'll focus on the 12 men who returned the "dream" to the "team" and hand out grades for the entire Olympic competition.

KOBE BRYANT: Sure, he forced some shots early on and he gambled too much on defense, but his several ultra-clutch plays in the fourth quarter of the gold-medal game reinforced his standing as the very best player in the world.
GRADE: A-plus

DWYANE WADE: Another hero of the gold-medal game. His hustle, power drives, and shot-making signal that he's returned to his super-star status.
GRADE: A-plus

LEBRON JAMES: Did a lot of everything — blocking shots, rebounding, passing, driving, hitting his treys, and demonstrating why he's an unparalleled finisher even in an angry crowd.
GRADE: A-plus

CHRIS PAUL: Played sniping defense, made judicious passes, and his speed always gave the team a jolt.
GRADE: A

TAYSHAUN PRINCE: Hit some bombs, hustled, played his usual superior defense, and was a quiet, mature presence.
GRADE: B-plus

CARMELO ANTHONY: Played the best defense of his career, but failed to fulfill his prediction of snatching 10 rebounds per game. Showed some disturbing signs that he's not quite the grown-up he needs to be, yet his outside shooting was important.
GRADE: B

JASON KIDD: Moved the ball with precision and unselfishness, shot extremely well, but had trouble keeping up with several of the younger, quicker guards he faced.
GRADE: B

DERON WILLIAMS: Hit some big shots and overcame his tendency to over-handle the ball, but played erratic defense.
GRADE: B-minus

CHRIS BOSH: His straight-up defense got worse as the tournament progressed and the competition stiffened, but was still always active.
GRADE: B-minus

CARLOS BOOZER: Wasn't asked to do much and did exactly that.
GRADE: C-minus

MICHEAL REDD: Didn't play enough to keep his stroke well-honed, but did no damage.
GRADE: C-minus

DWIGHT HOWARD: Dunked with admirable authority against inferior opponents. Played miserable defense and was a liability at the stripe.
GRADE: D-plus

Biggest surprise performance: D-Wade's dynamic comeback from his injury-plagued season in Miami.

Most disappointing performance: Dwight Howard's failure to dominate the paint.

Conclusion: Team USA did what they set out to do, and for now, at least, that's all that matters.

Outlook: LBJ, D-Wade, CP3, not-so-mellow-Melo, Deron Williams, Chris Bosh, Dwight Howard and perhaps a 34-year-old Kobe Bryant will probably re-up for the London Games. It can also be expected that many more NBAers will be eager to be part of the program, which could make the 2012 squad even stronger and deeper.

The only glitches are that more foreign-born players will undoubtedly undergo NBA-seasoning between now and then, which will make Olympic competition even better. Also, Team America's unexpected letdown in the gold-medal game (as much as a double-digit victory for gold can be considered a letdown) may give the rest of the world grounds for hope.

But the past is done, and the future doesn't exist. So let's all celebrate the thrilling accomplishments of these solid-gold heroes.

I feel like i'm wasting my time saying anything but i couldn't resist. Tony Parker stated that after the first dream team he watched those tapes all day so we know it's alot of people who watched just like he did. Of course other teams are getting better what are they supposed to do get worst of course not. So the point i'm making is that a win is a win. The margin of victory does not matter. If a swimmer wins by a tenth of a second we go and say WOW that was close or if a pole vaulter wins by a 1/8 of an inch what do we say. I know we claim basketball as our sport but we have other team sports also that don't go through this. You can say color has nothing to do with it but we know it does. So i say to all of you, who feel they didn't do a good job, next time send all WHITE BOYS and see if you even make it to the medal rounds.

the one thing that bothers me today is we cant comment on whitlocks dumb article. of course, whitlock found a way to make the olympics and team usa a racist and black issue again. whitlock, save your pathetic racial viewpoints for an article that requires it

who cares about the dream team that shiit was 16 years ago
cant we be proud of this years team? or are we all a bunch of rosens (haters)?
all this gargabage about which team will win- its all crap. let it go. go team USA 2008. kobe sucks, d waydes the best, no its lebron - let it go people. we won as a team, no one player was trying to score the most or handle the rock, they went out and played as a team and won.

See Some trying to compare the coupon team to the dream team!!There simply isn't one..One reason above many...#23 the one with 6 titles...With all else they had on that team-Dream team would have thumped this years team...

LeBron played very well, but without Kobe, there is no Gold medal. LeBron was in the 2004 Olympics team, and the 2006 world champisonship team and we stil lost.
Since Kobe joined the team, we haven't even lost one game yet.
That 4 point play by Kobe with 3:10 to go, making the score 108-99, pretty much sealed the fate of Spain. And when Spain tried another comeback by bringing the score to 108-104, Kobe and Wade immediately struck back again, and put the nail in Spain's coffin, bringing the scores to 113-105.

As for Spain, we are going to continue beating those guys at will. They played the best they have ever played, and our boys didn't play that great, and we stil beat them by 11 points.
Remember, even the 2004 US Olympics team, which was not even close to the best team we could have sent, still beat Spain in the semis, and Spain ended up in 7th position overall. Not to mention we beat the same Spain by a massive 37 in the first round in Beijing.

In 2012, Kobe will stil be there(if Jason Kidd is still laying at 35, I don't see why the far more talented Kobe shouldn't be playing for Team USA at 34), so will Wade, Chris Paul, LeBron, Howard, etc. Only thing is, they will all be a quite a bit better than they are now. Chris Paul wil be simlpye awesome come 2012.
The rest of thw orld is only going to continue to get clobberted by the uper talented US Team.

Why bother voting? The 1992 Drean Team is the best collection of World class Basketball players ever assembled. You train them 3 yrs and they,ll whup everyone by more than 60 points. Case closed.

Who the heck cares, and who asked you for grades. The USA team won and that's all that matters. Who hires these people????? Maybe a true sport fan needs to write these articles, instead of these anal retentive, over the hill, men!!!! Please give a break!

kobe was directly involved in up to 12- points in the close might have been 15 , his 3's his passes, you kobe haters need to just let it go usa ( gold ) and gasol got some bumps to toughin him up for nba play

How exactly does Kobe get an A+? Yes, he made some clutch plays, but was also repeatedly beaten off the dribble and had some awful stats. 46FG%, 58FT%, 1:1 A/T ratio, 32%3PT. I don't know how he shot this poorly even though the team was blowing everyone out by 30. Wade and Lebron both shot over 60%...

spain shot out of their minds and we still won, rubio was impressive(at 17). Pau did great (yaaaaaa, he's a Laker) and Kobe closed it like he is known for. although I will admit. Lebron was consistant throughout and hitting 3's? he was great all series.
also good image, much better then previous squades that seemed like they could care less about the olympics in general.great to see them at the other events :)

hey LIONEL,
who cares what happened. USA won the game and thats that. spain was relying on the 3 pointers. even though USA was horrible on the 3's they won with D and also winning in the paint. the only reason spain was close was because of the 3's. no team can win with 3's. and USA got the job done. USA will dominate again in london.

The fact remains that in spite of being 3 years together, the Redeem Team cannot pass the ball quickly around the perimeter, is extremely shy of the 3 point shot and can be confused by a 2-3 Zone. It is this same Spanish Team, except more experienced, that we,ll be facing in London. We definitely are going to need the Popovich Defense as Coach because it is hopeless to expect NBA players to play the International game like Argentina and Spain do it. And I fully agree that Spain dismantled our defense at will all throughout the game. We are still a long way from regaining our dominance-old habits die hard and our NBA players are not used to doing the three basic things noted above. All International Coaches know this.

As to some points made, Kobe's 3 pointer wasn't the 3 that put the nail in the coffin...it was D-Wade's 3 made AFTER that put the game out of reach.

As far as the players being better now than '08, I already agree...however, this was the same Spanish team the U.S. beat earlier in the tourney 119-82.

The U.S. team also had serious probs with the Argentinian team and that was w/o their best players (Ginobli, Nocioni) playing hurt or at all.

The big difference between now and the original Dream Team is what most people keep bitchin about in general when it comes to NBA basketball...not enough pure shooters as everyone wants to dunk, lay-up or in general get on the highlight reel - which you honestly really can't do shooting jump shots unless you get fouled taking a 3...

Just sayin... :)

While I'm glad we won, reading the posts on here are just funny in general.

I noticed no one (from the recent posts that is) have really hit on why the 92 team was better than the current Olympic Dream Team. Here are 2 main reasons w/o mentioning the stars at all:

1) Everyone on the 92 team (including Leattner) had played college ball and therefore new how to play as a team regardless of who was playing with them. Keep in mind this was AFTER Jordan learned how to TRULY play as a team to win the ultimate goal (The NBA title).

2)Experience. Period. If I'm not mistaken, the average age of the 92 team was around 28 yrs old. We'll know how good the '08 team REALLY is come 2012.

The only reason the talent level in other countries has risen is because most of their star players now play here, in the NBA, in America.

Tho, that dunk (facial) on Howard WAS sick... :)

My day is done. Time for a large Mt. Dew and some traffic. Gotta get home and take my son to gymnastics. Y'all have a good one. Go team USA!
