U.S. Olympic berths determined in sailing

Hall had previously failed to qualify for the Olympic team in 1996 and 2000. He won the first four races of the 16-race series to build a commanding lead.
Tim Wadlow and Peter Spaulding won the 49er class. Wadlow, from San Diego, and Spaulding, from Miami, finishing with 48 points, 11 better than the runners-up -- Dalton Bergan and Zack Maxam.
Wadlow and Spaulding opened the day with their 10th race win of the series and added a second-place finish to clinch the Olympic berth.
The Yngling class winner was the crew of skipper Carol Cronin of Jamestown, Rhode Island, Elizabeth Merrifield Filter of Stevensville, Maryland, and Nancy Haberland of Annapolis.
The class will make its Olympic debut at the Athens Games.
Also, John Lovell of New Orleans and Charlie Ogletree of Houston, Texas won the Tornado class.
Both will be appearing in the Olympics for the third time.
Meg Gaillard won the Europe class on Saturday.
