PARIS (AP) - Former Renault boss Flavio Briatore says he has been suspended by the FIA as a result of secret negotiations.

Briatore was handed a lifetime suspension in September after motorsport's governing body ruled that the flamboyant Italian was behind a scam in which Renault driver Nelson Piquet Jr. was ordered to deliberately crash his car at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix to help teammate Fernando Alonso win the race.

Briatore said in a statement on Friday that his suspension was "the result of secret negotiations on the eve of the so called hearing of Sept. 21 in front of the World Motor Sport Council, behind which the FIA is now trying to hide."
