 Roger Rotter Fantasy Football Chat(11/05/2009)
3:01
Fox Fantasy:
Hi everyone! Roger Rotter is here to answer your fantasy football questions.
Thursday November 5, 2009 3:01 Fox Fantasy
3:04
Fox Fantasy:

DeDe asks: Sims-Walker or Burleson as my WR3? and Fred Davis or Greg Olsen as my TE?

Thursday November 5, 2009 3:04 Fox Fantasy
3:05
Roger Rotter:
Start Burleson and Olsen.
Thursday November 5, 2009 3:05 Roger Rotter
3:05
Roger Rotter:
Seattle faces Detroit's poor pass defense, so look for Matt Hasselbeck, T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Burleson to have solid games.
Thursday November 5, 2009 3:05 Roger Rotter
3:07
Roger Rotter:
Sims-Walker barely registered in the box score last game, so he's a more iffy start even though Jacksonville is facing Kansas City's poor pass defense.
Thursday November 5, 2009 3:07 Roger Rotter
3:07
Roger Rotter:

I have both Olsen and Fred Davis closely rated at Nos. 8 and 9.

Thursday November 5, 2009 3:07 Roger Rotter
3:08
Roger Rotter:
Davis is a great sleeper after he and Jason Campbell connected well in the last game when Chris Cooley was injured.
Thursday November 5, 2009 3:08 Roger Rotter
3:08
Roger Rotter:
I give the slight edge to Olsen because he's more proven and already established in Chicago's offense.
Thursday November 5, 2009 3:08 Roger Rotter
3:09
FOX Fantasy:
Vicente asks: What do you think a smart start.....Matt Ryan or Phillip Rivers?
Thursday November 5, 2009 3:09 FOX Fantasy
3:10
Roger Rotter:
Start Rivers against the Giants' struggling secondary. It has been carved up by Warner, Brees and McNabb in recent games.
Thursday November 5, 2009 3:10 Roger Rotter
3:10
Roger Rotter:
It's been hurt by injuries at cornerback and safety.
Thursday November 5, 2009 3:10 Roger Rotter
3:11
FOX Fantasy:
Chris asks: Is it time for me to give up on Steve Slaton, and to start using Felix Jones as my flex?
Thursday November 5, 2009 3:11 FOX Fantasy
3:12
Roger Rotter:
Felix Jones isn't a much better option since his touches are erratic and he hasn't really produced as a fantasy starter this season.
Thursday November 5, 2009 3:12 Roger Rotter
3:13
Roger Rotter:

In my opinion, Slaton will likely cede some carries to Ryan Moats, but I think they'll still use him in receiving situations at least, like Leon Washington. But he'll receive more consistent touches on weekly basis than Washington did when he was healthy.

Thursday November 5, 2009 3:13 Roger Rotter
3:16
Roger Rotter:
I have Slaton rated higher than Felix Jones this week. I have Ryan Moats rated No. 28, Slaton rated No. 29 and Felix rated 34th in my RB rankings..
Thursday November 5, 2009 3:16 Roger Rotter
3:18
FOX Fantasy:
Bobby asks: Wuz up roger? Who do you think will have a more promising game? Austin Collie or Jeremy Maclin? How about Witten against TE-friendly Philly? Thanx!
Thursday November 5, 2009 3:18 FOX Fantasy
3:20
Roger Rotter:
I like Maclin better since he's emerging as McNabb's second option behind DeSean Jackson while Collie is still Manning's third option behind Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark. Still, both are nice sleepers and will be for the rest of the season (even when Anthony Gonzalez returns).
Thursday November 5, 2009 3:20 Roger Rotter
3:21
Roger Rotter:
And yes, you're right about Jason Witten having a big game against Philly. He's done well against them in the past, and the Eagles have had trouble guarding the tight end. Even Zach Miller of Oakland's poor pass offense had a big game.
Thursday November 5, 2009 3:21 Roger Rotter
3:22
Roger Rotter:
Witten is rated first in my TE rankings.
Thursday November 5, 2009 3:22 Roger Rotter
3:24
FOX Fantasy:
Michael asks: With Kurt Warner's struggles last week against Carolina with six turnovers, you think I should start him over Joe Flacco at Quarterback, playing against Cincy's ranked 29th passing defense?
Thursday November 5, 2009 3:24 FOX Fantasy
3:24
Roger Rotter:
Yes, Chicago's pass defense allowed Carson Palmer to throw for five touchdowns two weeks ago. It will be vulnerable to a big game by Kurt Warner.
Thursday November 5, 2009 3:24 Roger Rotter
3:26
Roger Rotter:
Flacco had a mediocre game against Cincinnati in this season's earlier matchup. He just threw one touchdown pass and they scored just 14 points. Now he's traveling to Cincinnati.
Thursday November 5, 2009 3:26 Roger Rotter
3:27
FOX Fantasy:
Travis asks: Would you trade either Ray Rice or Ronnie Brown for Randy Moss?
Thursday November 5, 2009 3:27 FOX Fantasy
3:28
Roger Rotter:
Yes, of course!
Thursday November 5, 2009 3:28 Roger Rotter
3:29
Roger Rotter:
I'd trade Ray Rice first with Ronnie Brown being more established in Miami's offense. Both have upcoming favorable matchups, but if the owner wants Brown, I'd be willing to trade him as well for Moss.
Thursday November 5, 2009 3:29 Roger Rotter
3:30
FOX Fantasy:
Joel asks: Speaking of Slaton.. would you drop him for Charles or McFadden?
Thursday November 5, 2009 3:30 FOX Fantasy
3:31
Roger Rotter:
No, Slaton will receive more scoring chances even playing part-time than Jamaal Charles or Darren McFadden. Touchdowns are limited in K.C. and Oakland.
Thursday November 5, 2009 3:31 Roger Rotter
3:33
Roger Rotter:
There's also a chance that Ryan Moats may not be able to handle a significant rushing load every week. He has yet to prove he could be the featured back in an NFL offense (if Houston decides to make him one). So Slaton could be back to nearly playing full-time.
Thursday November 5, 2009 3:33 Roger Rotter
3:33
FOX Fantasy:
Cathy asks: Mason or Crabtree as a flex this week? Thanks.
Thursday November 5, 2009 3:33 FOX Fantasy
3:36
Roger Rotter:
Though Mason had a poor game against Cincy last contest, he's still Baltimore's No. 1 wideout and is a proven start. Crabtree is a nice No. 3 start this week against Tennessee.
Thursday November 5, 2009 3:36 Roger Rotter
3:37
Roger Rotter:
But I give the slight edge to Mason for those reasons.
Thursday November 5, 2009 3:37 Roger Rotter
3:39
FOX Fantasy:
Rob asks: Roger, need a little help. I have D. Jackson, M. Austin & Mike Simms Walker. Need two this week. Would you play both WRs in the same game or go with Walker to avoid that?
Thursday November 5, 2009 3:39 FOX Fantasy
3:41
Roger Rotter:
No, I'd definitely start Austin and DeSean Jackson. They are great starts, ranking Nos. 10 and 11 in my WR rankings.
Thursday November 5, 2009 3:41 Roger Rotter
3:45
Roger Rotter:

I don't think it matters that you are starting both of them in the same game, when they are the top wide receivers for strong offenses with excellent quarterbacks.

Thursday November 5, 2009 3:45 Roger Rotter
3:45
FOX Fantasy:
A reader asks: need to pick two between: J Stewart, A Bradshaw, K Walter, and L Maroney.
Thursday November 5, 2009 3:45 FOX Fantasy
3:47
Roger Rotter:
I'd start Bradshaw against San Diego's suspect run defense, and Stewart against New Orleans' inconsistent run defense that's missing defensive lineman Sedrick Ellis (Michael Turner ran for 151 yards and one score last game).
Thursday November 5, 2009 3:47 Roger Rotter
3:50
FOX Fantasy:
A reader asks: With Owen Daniels out... Should I pick up Joel Dresson his backup or Spencer Havner?
Thursday November 5, 2009 3:50 FOX Fantasy
3:54
Roger Rotter:

If you are looking for a one-game pickup, go with Spencer Havner against Tampa Bay's shaky pass defense.

Thursday November 5, 2009 3:54 Roger Rotter
3:55
Roger Rotter:

Then you can pick up another tight end if/when Jermichael Finley returns for Green Bay.

Thursday November 5, 2009 3:55 Roger Rotter
3:56
Roger Rotter:
Otherwise, if the pickings are very slim and you can't pick up Finley when he returns, then go with Dreessen.
Thursday November 5, 2009 3:56 Roger Rotter
3:57
Roger Rotter:

Dreessen still has yet to prove he can be a fantasy starter, so there is more risk with him. Havner has scored three touchdowns in the last two games. Even though he's caught only four passes, he's at least shown he can be productive for fantasy.

Thursday November 5, 2009 3:57 Roger Rotter
3:58
FOX Fantasy:
Joey asks: Should I start Dwayne Bowe or Crabtree this week?
Thursday November 5, 2009 3:58 FOX Fantasy
4:00
Roger Rotter:
Bowe. Jacksonville's pass defense is rated as the seventh-worst, so Matt Cassel has a good chance as any to finally post a decent day. Bowe is also a safer start based upon his history than the more inexperienced Crabtree.
Thursday November 5, 2009 4:00 Roger Rotter
4:02
FOX Fantasy:
Kevin asks: who is more likely to post the better stats... Mike Wallace Pit. or Malcom Floyd SD. ?
Thursday November 5, 2009 4:02 FOX Fantasy
4:04
Roger Rotter:

I think Mike Wallace is a better start since he's already shown this season he's been a valued No. 3 fantasy starter at WR. He's either caught a touchdown or recorded at least 100 yards for three of the past five contests.

Thursday November 5, 2009 4:04 Roger Rotter
4:05
Roger Rotter:

Malcom Floyd's chance to be a fantasy starter increased greatly with the release of Chris Chambers. But even combining both stats together of Floyd and Chambers hasn't made San Diego's No. 2 WR a great weekly start.

Thursday November 5, 2009 4:05 Roger Rotter
4:06
Roger Rotter:
With that said, Floyd is worth claiming for those who are looking for help or depth at WR.
Thursday November 5, 2009 4:06 Roger Rotter
4:07
Roger Rotter:
Philip Rivers could target him more now knowing he's the likely guy as his second wideout.
Thursday November 5, 2009 4:07 Roger Rotter
4:08
FOX Fantasy:
A reader asks: Should i try to trade Kevin Smith for Brandon jacobs in PPR league? thanks
Thursday November 5, 2009 4:08 FOX Fantasy
4:10
Roger Rotter:
Yes, trade for Jacobs in exchange for giving up Smith, even in a reception league. Jacobs will likely rebound and still get his double-digit touchdowns. He's also due for a big game as the Giants' offensive line should be effective against San Diego.
Thursday November 5, 2009 4:10 Roger Rotter
4:12
Roger Rotter:
Also, Kevin Smith was replaced by Maurice Morris last game when he became injured, and Morris was more productive at 4.5 yards per carry compared to Smith's 2.8 average. Morris received 14 carries compared to Smith's 16 handoffs.
Thursday November 5, 2009 4:12 Roger Rotter
4:13
Roger Rotter:
Remember, in the NFL, all sample sizes are extremely small! So you have to be quick in deciding who will be a stud or a dud for your fantasy team. Just look at Miles Austin as a recent prime example!
Thursday November 5, 2009 4:13 Roger Rotter
4:15
Roger Rotter:

If you waited to see more proof, he was already gone before the next week's claims began.
