Kennedy began with Fox Sports Net as an analyst for NATIONAL SPORTS REPORT, where he served as a Major League Baseball analyst, providing commentary, in-depth features, timely interviews, and breakdowns of the game's nuances. Kennedy joined Fox Sports Net from ESPN, where he spent two years as an analyst for ESPN's national Wednesday Night Baseball game telecasts and ESPN Radio's national Sunday Night Baseball games.
Prior to joining ESPN, he managed four seasons of Major League Baseball for the Texas Rangers (1993-94) and the Boston Red Sox (1995-96). During his tenure with the Dodgers, he managed many current MLB players including Pedro Martinez, Eric Karros, Darrin Fletcher, John Wetteland, Carlos Hernandez, Eric Young and Raul Mondesi. In eight years with the team he compiled a 533-373 mark and finished in first place five times and no lower than second place during each season. In 1984, he traveled to China on behalf of the Dodgers, becoming one of the first American coaching professionals to give baseball clinics in the mainland.
