NASCAR ON FOX GOES TO THE GATE CITY OF THE SOUTH The 2008 NASCAR on FOX campaign rolls into Atlanta, GA this Sunday, March 9 (1:30 p.m. ET) for the Kobalt Tools 500 live from Atlanta Motor Speedway. Carl Edwards, despite being docked 100 points after last weekend's race, looks for three Sprint Cup victories in a row after back-to-back winning weekends in California and Las Vegas. Top drivers Ryan Newman, Kasey Kahne and current points leader Kyle Busch expect to find themselves in the winner's circle at arguably the fastest track on the NASCAR Sprint Cup circuit.
Prerace host Chris Myers and analyst Jeff Hammond bring fans all the news and features from the Hollywood Hotel, FOX Sports' traveling prerace set. Once the green flag drops, race announcer Mike Joy will be alongside analysts Darrell Waltrip and Larry McReynolds to call all the twists and turns on the track while Dick Berggren, Steve Byrnes, Krista Voda and Matt Yocum patrol the pits for up-to-the-second reports on teams and pit stops.
MCREYNOLDS CALLS FOR 100% CHANCE OF HIGH SPEED ACTION IN ATLANTA While in Atlanta for this weekend's race, analyst Larry McReynolds makes a pit stop at cable's 24-hour weather network, the Weather Channel. The veteran crew chief stops by "Your Weather Today" to talk about the affects of weather on tracks, drivers and cars and how it factors into a crew chief's strategy.
The self-described ‘Weather Channel freak' began his infatuation with climate as a NASCAR crew chief where he quickly learned that the conditions play a significant role into a race team's preparation.
"You obviously can't change the weather, but you can alternate your game plan," said McReynolds. "If it looked clear on Friday but stormy on Saturday, we could change when we worked on strategies for a certain track." He also thinks today's teams can use more accurate information and equipment to make better decisions. "As a crew chief for so many years, we didn't have all the resources they have today. The more precise information you have, the better prepared your team will be."
Footage of McReynold's venture into the world of weather prognosis, which includes his forecast for Sunday's race, will be featured during FOX Sports' prerace coverage beginning at 1:30 p.m. ET.
