NASCAR ON FOX: Digger debuts new T-shirt
by FOX Sports
NASCAR ON FOX BLAZES DOWN THUNDER VALLEY FOX Sports' Emmy Award-winning NASCAR team hits the short track as the 2008 NASCAR on FOX campaign travels to Bristol, TN. this Sunday, March 16 (2 p.m. ET) for the Food City 500 live from Bristol Motor Speedway. Defending track champion and last week's winner, Kyle Busch, looks to take the first-ever back-to-back checkered flags for Toyota. The Toyota/Roush Fenway Racing feud comes to a head following a week's worth of heated words and accusations. At the forefront of the budding rivalry are Busch and Rousch Racing's Carl Edwards, who is still looking to recover from last week's 100-point deduction for failing an inspection after his win at Las Vegas.
Prerace host Chris Myers and analyst Jeff Hammond bring fans all the news and features from the Hollywood Hotel, FOX Sports' traveling prerace set. Once the green flag drops, race announcer Mike Joy will be alongside analysts Darrell Waltrip and Larry McReynolds to call all the twists and turns on the track while Dick Berggren, Steve Byrnes, Krista Voda and Matt Yocum patrol the pits for up-to-the-second reports on teams and pit stops.
DIG THIS: IT'S "DIGGER" THE T-SHIRT Due to high demand, "Digger," the popular cartoon gopher of Gopher Cam fame, is now featured on t-shirts. FOX Sports, in conjunction with Chase Authentics, has designed a t-shirt for Digger's growing legion of fans. The Digger t-shirt will be widely available for sale at trackside merchandise rigs all season long beginning this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway, and from a variety of web sites, including www.FOXSports.com on MSN; www.goracin.com; www.speedtv.com; and www.dwstore.com. The high grade shirts, which come in both youth and adult sizes, are priced from $15 to $21.50. Additional apparel and novelty items, including baseball caps and plush toys, are expected to join the Digger line in the near future.
HAMMOND UNDERSTANDS WHERE STEWART IS COMING FROM NASCAR on FOX prerace analyst and former crew chief Jeff Hammond says it's unfair for people to criticize Tony Stewart for his on-air complaints of Goodyear during Sunday's postrace interview. "He was probably the spokesperson for 42 other guys," said Hammond. "People don't understand what it's like to run over 180 mph thinking you are going to crash every lap." Hammond appreciates Stewart's straight forward approach. "It's refreshing that Tony is so brutally honest. But when he's had time to put things in perspective, it's his willingness to regroup and sometimes retract his statements which people admire." said Hammond. "I applaud NASCAR for allowing drivers to express their feelings without just handing out a fine and that's what makes our sport great. He didn't like the tire, it was not a good choice, and they can do better."
