Worth a thousand words:
According to a report in VeloNews, Lance Armstrong will come out of retirement next year and will compete in the Tour de France.
Citing sources close familiar with the situation, the magazine claimed the seven-time yellow jersey winner would join the Astana racing team and compete in five road races, including the Tour de France.
Armstrong, who turns 37 later this month, would also compete in the Amgen Tour of California, Paris-Nice, the Tour de Georgia and the Dauphine-Libere.
The sources, who asked to remain anonymous, also said Armstrong would not race for salary or bonuses.
Armstrong's manager, Mark Higgins, did not respond to questions.
If Armstrong does in fact join up with Astana, it would reunite him with former team manager Johan Bruyneel, who helped guide Armstrong's Motorola and U.S. Postal Service teams to seven consecutive Tour de France wins.
According to sources, Armstrong would post results for all of his internally tested blood work online in an attempt to prove that he is competing clean.

....and plus also, I think it sucks to have 3 top TDF contenders (Leipheimer, Contador, and Leipheimer) all on one team. Levi and Contador missed out on the tour this year, and Levi might not have many more chances to win. With Lance on the team guess who's gonna get pushed aside. It would be much more entertaining to see them all on seperate teams.
ps. Cycling is very much alive here in the US. The turn out for the 2008 Tour of California was fantastic! Can't wait until next year.

buttassuglies doesnt know what he is talking about. Yes it gets harder the older you get to compete in cycling as in any sport.. But as you move up in cycling to the pro feild you learn how to take care of your body so you can put in the effort that those men and women are doing. Also there are a lot of late 30 year olds in cycling that have never been accused of doping! Lance is clean.. He has proved it time and time again! Why dont we hold some of our other sports to the same standard that cycling has of its cyclists? We wouldnt really have any players to play in the NBA, NFL, or expecially in MLB.. So just hold your tongue, watch a bunch of guys ride some bikes over beautiful areas in our country and other countries and cheer them on cuz come on your never going to be able to do it so shut it!

In America, we are innocent until proven guilty. We don't have to prove our innocence. The accuser has to prove our guilt. That is one aspect of why America is great and we want others to experience our freedom.

For those of you not familiar with drug/blood doping tests; yes they can be beaten, and yes tests continually improve to catch the cheaters. However, just because Lance never TESTED positive, Does NOT mean he never doped. Please do your homework before you spam my comment. Thank you.

Armstrong retired from road racing he never fully retired for those that think he's pulling crap or running out of money. And which one of your sport so called heros defeated the number one cause of male cancer deaths. Then came back to set a record that might not ever be broken. There are a lot of jerks out there praising the football player that makes millions per season or baseball and baskerball and some of these so called sports don't do near the drug testing that the cycling community does. If Lance wants to give up cross country and go back to street riding more power to him. I'll cheer for him he's better than most the so called superstars of sports. It seems the nicer you are the more people want to hate you.

gil1019, I suggest knowing something about cycling or Lance Armstrong before posting. Lance Armstrong has never failed a drug test or been linked to any type of drug use or blood doping by anyone other than bitter French media. I am glad that Lance is coming back but American cycling is live and well without him, which you would know if you followed the 2008 tour at all. Team columbia and garmin-chipotle rode amazingly well. He is not pathetic, you are for insulting a champion and a sport without basis or knowledge.

go team astana and all american cyclists!

You people contradict your own assinine statements. If everyone is doping then he beat all of them dopers if he is clean which he is.........then he still beat all those dopers. You are all just jealous that he beat your guys either way.......and how many times in a row.........I doubt most of you can count that high!

I'm all for it if he's going to ride as a domestique for Leipheimer or Contador.

Everyone's a critic and everyone's a cynic. Get over it or don't, but this man has never doped and never will. I'm sure that all of you that dog this man have been in his shoes and have been through everything he has! I'm sure that they haven't come up with a new doping drug that can't be detected! The testing now is much to difficult. Besides that, anyone that would post all of their blood tests on the internet day-to-day has NOTHING to hide. So, for all you arm chair announcers and know-it-alls, go to France and ride Alpe D'Huez and then come back and drop a post! Until then, keep 'em shut and watch. If you don't watch, we don't care. You will be one less person we have to say "Shut Up" to while Bob Roll is announcing! Yes, we love Bobke too!

All of you are jealous that you never did anything memorable in your life. The man is cycling and will always be. Read the sudies of his body and its makeup, he was built perfectly for this sport. Give it up, he is clean and will prove it once again!

Go away armstromg! Nobody wants you. Just stay home and relax, you have nothing to prove.
Just wither and die, please!!
we are tired of you

As typical, another athlete bored with not performing their old tasks. He was doping then, lied about it, and will only return for endorsement money, which is drying up because no body cares about cycling, especially if he is not racing. No racing, No t.v. attention. He is pathetic.

I believe the law states "Innocent until proven guilty" not "guilty until proven innocent"

after hundreds of blood tests, tests that have tested for a wider variety of substances on a much more frequent basis, and always clean..Lance Armstrong is still slandered by fools comments and accusations. He is a great story and an amazing athlete. Go Lance!! Win or lose you have nothing to prove, if this story is true, enjoy your races!

If 37 is old, how come that 40 is not yet older. You better let the champ do his sport and prove his worth. Everyone who hang his jersey needs to have a comeback. Look at Rocky 1-4, Leonard, Ali, Frazier, Duran, Spinks, Jordan among others.

I never realized there were so many jealous Frenchmen who posted here.

Great news. So what if he comes out of retirement and you don't like it. He isn't some has-been boxer, etc. This guy is exceptional and has proven he can race, and win big time. Sponsors, TV types, etc. should be ecstatic. How many Americans do you think bothered watching any of the Tour de France this year?
