PLAYER NOTES:

--D Keith Yandle has to step up his play with the defensive unit missing three starters and he did his part Saturday. Yandle scored his second goal of the season and started Phoenix's late comeback attempt by stealing an Anaheim pass and beating goalie Jonas Hiller under the crossbar. Yandle was a plus-two for the night, skating 31 shots and playing more than 21 minutes.

--RW Scottie Upshall is finally getting it going on offense. He scored his fifth goal of the season and for the third straight game off a Matthew Lombardi feed just 38 seconds after Yandle's goal. He has scored in three of four games since he was benched by coach Dave Tippett on Oct. 29 in St. Louis.

--RW Shane Doan's goal was his fifth of the season and his 263rd as a Coyote, leaving him one shy of tying Thomas Steen for third place on the all-time franchise list. Dale Hawerchuk has the record with 379 goals and Keith Tkachuk is second with 323. His power-play goal against the Ducks with 5:24 left in regulation pulled Phoenix within a goal and snapped a streak of 13 straight penalty kills by Anaheim.

MEDICAL WATCH:

--D Kurt Sauer sat out his 16th straight game with what the team is calling an upper-body injury. Sauer is back on the ice skating but has not begun practicing with the team.

--D Zbynek Michalek suffered a lower body injury late in Wednesday's loss at Colorado and his status is week-to-week. His place in the lineup has been taken by AHL call-up David Schlemko.

--D Ed Jovanovski limped off the ice in the third period with what appeared to be a leg or knee injury and did not return. His status is unknown. The Coyotes recalled Shaun Heska from San Antonio -- the third defenseman in the starting lineup against Anaheim that didn't figure to be on the ice in Phoenix.
