--C Jordan Staal has scored eight goals in 24 games. He needed 62 games to score that many last season.
--C Evgeni Malkin did not record a point Wednesday. It was only the third time in 19 games he has failed to register a point.
--C Mike Zigomanis left the game with an undisclosed injury but said he expects to play Thursday at Carolina.
MEDICAL WATCH:
--D Philippe Boucher (undisclosed) is week-to-week. He was injured Friday at Buffalo.
--G Marc-Andre Fleury (undisclosed) is day-to-day. He was injured Nov. 15 against Buffalo.
--RW Tyler Kennedy (undisclosed injury) is day-to-day. He was injured Wednesday at the New York Rangers.
--D Sergei Gonchar (left shoulder) had surgery to correct a dislocation Oct. 2. He is out until at least March. He was injured on Sept. 20 in the Penguins' exhibition opener.
--D Ryan Whitney (left foot) had surgery to correct a deformity Aug. 16. He is expected to return in December.
