Sarah Karges' Tailgate Summary:

Michigan vs. Ohio State!

Wooo weee it was a chilly one in the Good Ol' Midwest! But that didn't stop any of the fans from celebrating their biggest rivalry game of the season. What made this stop one of the best was the traditions!

My favorite tradition would definitely have to be jumping in Mirror Lake. The Thursday night before the big game, the Ohio State fans all gather at around 10pm to jump in the lake together. It was the literally and figuratively the coolest tradition I have ever seen! It was snowing and 18 degrees. The fans went nuts, dressed in speedos, swimsuits and even trash bags! Plus Kent had a enough balls to jump in the lake himself.. Ha ha I have to admit I was a little jealous I didn't get to experience this one first hand!

The tailgating here was such a blast! The Ohio State and Michigan fans would set up early morning before the big game at 5:00 am. Some even spent the night there just to be sure they would get their spot! We started our day off at 5 am. I was lucky enough to be able to wake up a fan too! And boy, was he mad at me.

I called him "the cacoon" because he was zipped up in a sleeping bag and the only thing I could see was his cold nose sticking out. I made him get up and drink some Buckeye juice.. :) The tailgates were set up with flat screens, tons of food, heaters and some even had dj's. My favorite food would have to be the fried twinkies with melted chocolate on top! My favorite drink is called "Sunshine" which is another word I used for moonshine! My favorite tailgate was the tricked out ambulance transformed into the "Buckeye Tailgate." It was painted scarlet and gray. It was fully loaded with a beer tap, flat screens, great food and had the same whistles and horns that a normal ambulance would have.

Predictions?

Yes! I won a second one! I predicted that Ohio State would win over Michigan. Even though Ohio State was hugely favored over Michigan you never know what can happen when two big rivalries like this play each other.

Next stop, the BCS Championships in Miami, FL! This is the biggest one of them all and I believe the hardest one to decide who gets in. With 3 teams in the Big 12, Florida, USC, and Penn State all with one loss and of course Alabama and Utah both undefeated, at this point they will be fighting to the end to earn themselves a spot in the championship! I believe that it will be Oklahoma vs. Florida in the big game and I look forward to reuniting with both teams' fans to see how they do it at the biggest game of the year.

Over and Out,

Sarah "Blackshirt" Karges

Kent Walls' Tailgate Summary:

Michigan/OSU!

It's 10:30 p.m., light snow flurries and about 20 degrees outside in Columbus, Ohio on the Thursday night before the Michigan/OSU game and what do I do? Yes, I tried to relive the glory days in high school when I lived outside the Cleveland area and I decided I would jump in Mirror Lake along with hundreds of other Ohio State students. Here is the problem. They can't feel anything…well because they are doing what most college students do on Thursday nights and it involves consuming certain liquids that ease that pain! However, I felt every bit of sting, shock, awe, throbbing, etc. all over my entire body as I went under in the freezing water, but it was all worth it and I loved every second of it – because that's what we do on the FCS Tailgate Tour, right?

Favorite Tradition?

Besides Mirror Lake, we experienced "The Best Damn Band In The Land -Alumni Style" on Friday night while at Eddie George's Grill 27. It was hilarious! I'm standing inside this bar talking to fans and suddenly I see all these band members pushing 70 plus walk in with their tubas, trumpets, trombones, etc. along with the alumni cheerleaders (who actually proceeded to dance on the bar). I went on to learn that every year before the Michigan/OSU game, these alumni band members get together and play all their OSU band favorites all around the city of Columbus. And to prove how "down to business they were," not one of these band members had music in front of them. They never forget these songs on their instruments. That's dedication!

Best Tailgate Memory?

This is a tough one! First off, I'm blown away by the state of Ohio. It was 20 degrees outside…maybe colder… and they were still going strong! Now I spent part of my adolescence years in OH-IO and my body was barely functioning. Maybe it is because the last eight years of my life have been spent out West and I think 50 degrees is cold now, but I was blown away by the dedication these fans had. The game started at noon and Buckeye fans were ready to roll at 5 a.m. They just sat out in the cold with smiles on their faces as if the cold didn't faze them. Anyway, the best tailgate memory had to be the "shorts crew." It was this group of 50-something guys who missed an OSU vs. Illinois game YEARS ago and have since "punished" themselves by starting this "shorts crew," where they are required to wear shorts at every OSU game for life. As we walked up to these guys, I just couldn't stop laughing and the best part about it was they were dead serious. This was not a joke! They were all business when it came to the shorts and I happen to have a pair of shorts on under my jeans, so what better way to experience the "shorts crew" then to join them (with my pasty white legs and all).

How Did My Prediction Go?

I've got a three-game win streak going here, similar to my fantasy football teams who are winning at the right time! Everyone knew this wouldn't even be a game. I talked to so many Michigan fans this weekend that are just embarrassed by their program this year, and Buckeye fans spared no expense when it came to letting them know! Hey Sarah – yep I'm still winning – ha!

Next Stop on the Tailgate Tour:

It's Miami, Florida for the BCS National Championship! You have no idea how excited I am for this weekend! First off, South Beach and college football – that's a dream right there. I'm sticking by my prediction that Florida will be in this game and not Alabama! Now whom will they play? Oklahoma? Texas? Can USC get in? It's going to be interesting to see how the polls shake out, but let's be honest – Florida and Oklahoma look REAL good right now.

See ya in Miami,

Kent Walls
