WASHINGTON

He may have one of the most demanding day jobs in the world, but President Barack Obama took on one more work assignment Saturday when he stepped in to coach daughter Sasha's basketball team – even though she wasn't there.

The White House said First Lady Michelle Obama and daughters Sasha and Malia were on a Colorado ski trip with friends but gave no details.

Obama helped coach nine-year-old Sasha's team for the first time, filling in for the regular coach, at a community center in Maryland. There was no word on whether his team won.

Obama frequently attends Sasha's Saturday morning basketball games but reporters are usually not allowed inside the gym.

The president is also known for shooting hoops himself, frequently with a group of friends including Reggie Love, an aide and former Duke basketball star. Last November, Obama took an elbow to the presidential upper lip during a game and required 12 stitches.

Obama's brother-in-law is Craig Robinson, a star basketball player at Princeton University and currently head coach at Oregon State University.
