Report: Rogers accused of nude rampage
A Manhattan judge on Friday set bail at $75,000 bond or $10,000 cash for Jereme Rogers, the pro skateboarder charged in a naked rampage at the Shelburne hotel on Thursday night.
Officials say the 26-year-old, tattooed Rogers, of Massachusetts, was caught in the nude, smashing paintings in the Murray Hill hotel's hallway. Rogers did not immediately post a bond and was being held at Manhattan Criminal Court on Friday.
THAT'S NUTS
Bad singers and crazy squirrels? Those were just two of our favorite offbeat sports stories of 2011.Named rookie of the year in 2005 by Skateboarding magazine, Rogers is now charged with misdemeanor criminal mischief, carrying a possible maximum sentence of one year in jail.
Rogers caused $2,500 in damage by grabbing three paintings off the wall, smashing them against the floor until the glass broke. He then ripped the canvases with his hands, according to the criminal complaint against him.
"He was yelling about how he was the son of God," a source told The New York Post.
Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Diane Boyer set bail after prosecutor Andrew Weinstein argued that Rogers has no ties to New York, an open arrest for similar shenanigans out of state, and a history of not showing up for court dates.
In 2009, Rogers was arrested for doffing his undies and preaching -- bottomless -- from a rooftop in Redondo Beach, Calif.
